Momijiyama Garden is very pleasant, although the "Fuji" at its center is a bit tacky for true Japanese garden aficionados. Listed in "Hidden Gardens of Japan" THE photo essay and reference for finding unspoiled gardens in Japan minus the tour bus mobs available on Amazon...More

The attraction is a very significant part of Japanese Shogunate history, however there were very few remains of the original buildings at the Castle ground. In fact, Shizuoka Castle (Sumpu Castle) had been converted into Sumpu Park. We visited the reconstruction of the East Gate...More

From our Ship berthed in Shimizu we traveled the half-hour to the prefectural capital of Shizuoka. A little confusing, there are two railway lines linking the towns. One is JR, the other Shizutetsu, and each has its own station in both Shimizu and Shizuoka. Both...More

The castle was less than a mile from our hotel so made for a nice early morning walk but was most spectacular lit up at night.

Left behind some walls and moat, the main thing about this place is the garden. Lots of school children around during my trip here, probably school field trips for them. A pretty good place to have a leisure walk.

Not much left, basically a wall with a moat. The gardens are definitely the draw for this attraction. Very peaceful, nice place to take pictures. If you are short on time, this is not a must see.
