The castle was less than a mile from our hotel so made for a nice early morning walk but was most spectacular lit up at night.

Left behind some walls and moat, the main thing about this place is the garden. Lots of school children around during my trip here, probably school field trips for them. A pretty good place to have a leisure walk.

Not much left, basically a wall with a moat. The gardens are definitely the draw for this attraction. Very peaceful, nice place to take pictures. If you are short on time, this is not a must see.

It's a relaxing place to walk in good weather and get away from the rush of downtown Shizuoka. I've heard rumors of plans to rebuild the castle keep, which would be interesting to see.

Visit the Shizuoka (Sunpu Jyo) to learn the Tokugawa Ieyasu's favorite castle. You can visit the Shizuoka City Government building's 24th floor to see the amazing view of the city.

The story behind the castle is great! The grounds and structures are amazing and well cared for. They are also building another structure inside of the castle grounds sometime in the next few years.

We visited the Garden within the Castle grounds and within Sunpu Park. The garden is delightful - all on a small scale even a miniature Mount Fuji surrounded by a tea plantation. Take a stroll around the lake and through the trees for some very...More
