This was a comfortable train that was sufficiently air conditioned. The Hakone station was small and a bit frazzled.

One of the unique train and railways in Hakone. This train travels from Hakone Yumoto station, passing through several stations before making its final stop at Gora. The train is very slow, but thanks to that you can see beautiful flowers along the way, especially...More

We rode this rain in from Odowara. Older style of train but functional for the mountains. You can get where you need to at a slower pace...

If you are exploring Hakone, it seems inevitable that you need to take the Hakone Tozan Railway. It is part of the Hakone Free Pass, which isn't actually free, but easy to use and takes to all the sites you want to see.

Such a busy train line. We let the train in the station leave so we could be in the front of the queue to board the next service ( we had luggage and grumpy kids - so we really wanted a seat). If you want...More

Trip up the mountain takes quite some time, more than 40 min and switchs back three times which has you wondering if you are going the correct way. Nice scenery on the way if the train isnt packed. It was ok, but had limited time...More

It's slow but it's the process less than the destination w/ these trains. You are very high up in the mountains and the trains have to do 2 switchbacks to make it up this very steep mountain side which is a fun experience. Hokone is...More

We happen to take a historic original train #104 which was one of the originals from Hakone Yumoto to Gora. It was packed and we had to stand on the train. But it was worth it. We paid 4000 yen for the Hakone Free pass...More

A good train ride, albeit a bit confusing at times. In the first switchback I thought we had missed getting off and were headed back to the station, but we veered off into another track to climb the mountains. Lovely hydrangeas and beautiful trees.

The railway is constructed on a switchback system that allows it to go up a steep mountain slope by a process of going beyond a stop and then reversing direction and taking off up the track to the higher side. Sorry for such a poor...More

1. No point driving to Yumoto; not just about parking but it is more difficult to get there than train. Park at Odawara or any other major train stations where parking is ample. Yumoto is a bustling place with lots of... More

You may want to consider the Hakone Free pass. See my review on this and there are a lot more details on planning and the pass as well journey time/details from Tokyo.
