Out of all of the shrines I've visited, this one was my favorite. Why? Because it was surrounded by peaceful nature! I visited a little before sunset and got to see the lights lit up. It was very magical! My only gripe would be the...More

Can be seen from hakone pier but really not worth to take too much time there. Nothing much but has those tori gate. LocTed by the sea and you can go really to the edge for a nice scenic photography. Worth to go if u...More

At the end of our boat trip on Lake Ashi we disembarked at Motohakone-ko. It was beginning to snow but started walking toward the Hakonejinja (Hakone shrine). It is a short walk and climb (perhaps 100 steps or so) in a beautiful forest which looked...More

The shrine is up a hill with its usual red tori gate but there is another picturesque one just by the side of the lake. Provides a very nice background for beautiful photos.

A short walk from where the pirate ship drops off, this shrine is absolutely gorgeous. The worship area is located up a gorgeous walk and several flights of stairs, and the iconic tori gate is on the opposite end of that walk, on the lake....More

Hakone Shrine & Kuzuryu Shrine are two different shrines, FYI. This confused us when we visited. If you want to see the tori gate that is right on Lake Ashi, then the one you want to visit is Hakone Shrine, near Motohakone. The gate is...More

Is a nice location. You can follow the lake, walk up the stairs to the temple and then go down to the lake where the Tori is. From there you can walk along the lake on both side.

The shrine is WAY up the mountain. Its about 864 m high. For those people who have trouble at high altitudes. Do not go. I had trouble breathing thee whole way up and while walking around there.

Arrived Hakone Shrine at around 3pm. Wasn't that packed but you can still see some tour buses there. Torii gates around the shrine but not as many as Fushimi Inari Shrine. Not a must visit shrine.

The biggest shrine in Hakone. Combination of historical and religious structure, forest and the lake. The structure is orthodox, and you can find standard Shinto Shrine. The forest looks nice with big trees. The highlight is the Torii gate in the water. People lined up...More
