A short trip from Nikko this lake provides some great vista and walks. Some good eateries in the town too.

If you want to visit Nikko National Park but are not a hiker the Lake is a nice option, with restaurants, lodging, vacation homes, hot springs, and relaxing sightseeing including Kegon Falls.

Walk along the lake for miles, its so serene. There are also temples to see, and local restaurants are so welcoming of business. Nikko has great tourist information centres as well as free wifi. Many waterfalls such as Kaegon falls a short walk away. Nikko is a little more difficult to get to so not too crowded with tourists. It... More

Visited in December, not many tourists. It was a very windy day hence was not able to walk along the lake for long. Would imagine its beauty during summer.

I visited Lake Chuzenji as a day trip -- to observe the autumn leaf colours. It was really serene, with the leaves almost reaching their peak colours of golden, crimson and maple syrup brown. Against the bright blue sky and the gently-rippling surface of the lake, it was really a sight to behold. There wasn't much to do there, but... More

While traveling in Okunikko hike along the lake. Before going to the trip take a look at the weather forecast.

To be familiar with the places I'd be referring to, you can take a look at the route map which can be accessed at Tobu bus site. I cannot post the link here since it is against the TripAdvisor guidelines. :( Went to Nikko and was intending to hike down from Yumoto-onsen. However, there was intense traffic even before reaching... More

First of all, you should visit this place in the morning so that you will see the most impressed view. Next, I suggest that you can come here in autumn. For that, you will see the sceneries like seeing the drawing pictures in art museum. Last, all you have to do is relaxing yourself and enjoy the view. I recommend... More

I drove there and keep on the way leading up to the hill. There is a short hike, about 20 min, to the observation platform providing you a beautiful view of the lake together with freshest air (and chilling wind in Nov). But, mind that the way back to Nikko city will be twisting with 49 bends.
