A lovely quite and simple shrine in nature. Covered in moss and surrounded by trees it creates a peaceful feeling. Worth the walk there

This shrine is about a half hour walk from Nikko's principle temples in the historical zone. The path there is surrounded by the forest, with smaller shrines, a waterfall, and the occasional deer along the way. You have the option of hiking the ancient stone...More

This is the highlight of a long walk. I didn't know what to expect and I don't think I was expected something grand . To me it's more the experience of the whole walk up to this final point and it's absolutely satisfying. This low...More

Maybe because of the great reviews, I had too high of expectations for Takinoo shrine. Some things to keep in mind: 1. The walk is a little far from the main shrine area. This is a good thing in that it means a lot fewer...More

So I went to Nikkou, finally. This shrine was not very popular but it is very interesting. From Toushouguu it's a kilometer hike along a difficult stone path. I had loads of fun though. Takinou Jinja is a very mysterious shrine with many blessings to...More

After visiting Tosho-gu and Taiyun-byo, we decided to visit Takinoo shrine. It was a quiet 30 minute uphill walk trough the woods via a stone path to the left of Futara shrine. We saw 6 more tourists trough the path. When we arrived to the...More

Nice hike in the forest. The shrine is quit (the crowds didn't find it) and lies beautiful in the nature. Worth the hike! Free.

We did two things in Nikko which really blew our mind. Takinoo Shrine was one of the two things (the other one was an excursion to Lake Chuzenji). The temples at the heart of the world heritage site are completely crowded and overrun by people....More

Please can signage to this glorious trail be upgraded ? What a relief to find a cobbled stone path away from the crowds at the shrine to escape to. Huge cedar trees mosses and ferns lined the pathway up. Autumn colours added to the experience...More
