It’s closed
Feb 2020 • Couples
We planned our trip to Himeji and allowed extra days so we could visit Shoshazan Engyoji, arriving at the bus station we were told that the tramway is closed all of February until mid March. There is no notification on the website advising of this lengthy closure. You can walk to the top, it takes 50 minutes, uphill on a rocky rough path, we elected not to do this. I am very disappointed that such a lengthy closure was not properly advised through website

めちゃくちゃきれいです
Wonderful place

期待より美しいでした。姫路市に遊びに行ったら、雨が降っても行かなければならないところです。だからこそ映画の舞台だったと思います。
それで、スタッフ達はとても親切でした。
More beautiful than I expected. Even if it rains, it’s a must-see place if you visit Himeji city. Probably that’s why it was the stage of some movie such as “The last Samurai”.
The staff is very friendly!

Nice but short ride
Dec 2019 • Solo
Got the package deal from the bus terminal office which includes the bus ride to and fro, plus the Ropeway rides.

Nice views from the cabin, depending on the weather for the day. It's a relatively short duration ride. About 5 minutes or so.

Didn’t get there

Watch out - the last entry in April is quite early. We got to the bus station at 3.55pm and were told we were too late - I think for the last car down from the rope way. Anyway, we missed it. So maybe a morning activity...

Saw nothing
Oct 2018 • Couples
Probably nice on a good day but we'll never know. Packed into the car, and taken to top but saw nothing because of cloud. Guess it would have been good if we'd been told nothing would be visible today

Makes magical Mount Shosha most accessible

After a 30 minute bus ride from Himeji station, the modern cablecar takes about 4 minutes to travel up the mountain, leaving every 15 minutes. We purchased a round trip for bus & ropeway for Y1400.

We took it one way, going up. Good thing as coming down was treacherous. Rocky, steep slopes, slippery gravel but astoundingly gorgeous. A tram is a tram, but this one is unique, great staff, punctual, and decent English. Great shrine at the top.

Efficient. Offers nice views.

Tickets to the cable car ride, (600Y one-way, 1000Y round trip) can be purchased from the vending machine a short distance from the bus stop. A helpful staffmember guides visitors in using this machine.
The rides, quick and orderly, are offered every half hour. There are a few seats inside.
Tip: Bring loose change. The bus ride (Bus number 8 from Bus stop 10) from the North exit of the JR Himeji station costs 270Y. One pays cash to the bus driver before alighting.

Convenient way to visit Engyoji
Sep 2018 • Friends
Spare yourself the hike up the mountain and take the ropeway which brings you 800 meters away from the summit. Then hike up to the main hall, the gentle and sloping ascent with great views is rewarding.
