Few people know but otsu Kyo was a capital very short period. Recently because of manga / TV movie , Japanese card game what we called" karuta" is getting popular among youth. Now youth have interested in manga / film .. But also some come to visit . That's shrine was old and quiet but now they are alive.

Easily accessible from Kyoto via transferring onto the Keihan railway, the shrine itself is in a lovely park, surrounded by a little wooded area. The contrast between the trees and the red of the shrine is quite beautiful, and the walls of some areas are decorated with the poems from the Hyakkunin Isshu poetry anthology. Beautiful Shrine and great area to explore. Easy to find and with the bus easy to reach. During cherry blossom its perfect time.

This shrine is famous as a Karuta (traditional Japanese card game) competition venue in the New Year's Holidays. The shrine buildings are great and tasteful, it seems that there are only a few tourists.
