Landmark in Kagoshima, is a must do visit. Short trip by ferry, the best to do is to get a Sakurajima Island View bus pass or use the Kagoshima day pass to explore Island best.

This active volcano is really worth a visit. I've only been to one other active volcano, Mt. Etna, Catania, Sicily, in 1984 and enjoyed Mt. Sakurajima more.

A must visit by a short Ferry Boat ride from Kagoshima ferry port. Take a City bus from JR station to Ferry. Obtain a all day bus pass and catch the bus right outside JR station. Check with Tourist information at JR station for details

So wonderful to see this with my own eyes. Only thing better would be I minor eruption. I took a tour close to the mountain and it was well worth it. If you get a chance come down and check this out.

If you're lucky you'll catch a glance of the beautiful volcano flying into Kagoshima or perhaps capture its stunning view during a drive on a clear day. I visited Kagoshima during raining season. There were only 3 or days it was clear. I captured this...More
