The highlight of my trip to Sakurajima Island was the ferry ride there and back from Kagoshima. It was quick, clean and quiet and you can sit inside or out.

Very comfortable ferry for the 15 minute trip to Sakurajima. Plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. Vending machines on board too.

Great picturesque trip! Best Udon in the world! Worth it just for that. Great view of Sakurajima, the volcano.

Located near Aquarium, ferries run every 15 minutes and are cheap. You pay as you get off at the island, and again at the island before you embark.

As we had a rental car, we were a bit worried of finding our way to and at the ferry terminal. In hindsight, such worries were not justified. The signage is very clear, and both embarkation and disembarkation processes are well organized and efficient.

We rented a car in Kagoshima and took the ferry across to Sakurajima. Boarding was easy, just drive straight on and pay the fare on arrival in Sakurajima
