While there are a great many shrines in Japan, this shrine stands alone on this island half a kilometre in circumference. The shrine is very well cared for and if you want to avoid the crowds, come earlier in the day. If you are travelling to this island on your own, the most efficient way is to take the bus... More

While the surroundings are scenic, the shrine itself was just an overcrowded shrine that didn't stand out over the typical Shinto shrine...it's about the only thing on Aoshima Island though...so worth checking out if you're on the island anyway

On the way to the shrine, there are stalls selling local specialities like mango ice-cream and pork rice ball. After passing these stalls, there are also magnificent views of the ocean and devil's washboard (interesting rock formation). During low tide in the afternoon, you can walk down to see the devil's washboard up close. Along the beach, there are also... More

This Japanese shrine is located on the Aoshima Island. Couples get married here. Learn some Japanese tradition here.

Aoshima shrine has been known as a company of marriage. This shrine is dedicated to the third sun of sky-god Yamasachihiko and daughter of sea-god Toyotamahime. They married and had children. Born children are enshrined in Miyazaki Shrine as the first emperor(Jinmu Tennou) in Japan.

The Aoshima Shrine is the only real thing to visit on the Island, besides the 'Devil's Washboard' at the beach line..

From the mainland , we walked a few minutes till we reached the shrine. Inside is an interesting anda unique place. People pay respect at the shrine. Some buy Ema (a wooden plaque) to write on their wishes and hang it at a designated area. The shrine is located just in front of the ocean where one can see the... More

Aoshima Shrine is located just in the middle of Aoshima Island. It is a serene place, which is surrounded by subtropical plants. On the right hand side of the main building there is a narrow path, which leads you to Motomiya. This is the site of ancient Shinto ceremony. It is also worth to visit.

I went there dawn of a day. No one were there but view was breath taking. I could do that because I stayed close from here. I guess Sun set around time might be good for a nice view as well.

The shrines on Aoshima Island are a very mystic place. On the island there is a Shinto shrines and several views of the Pacific Ocean is incomparably beautiful. By the flora and fauna the Shinto shrines offer a tropical-sounding flair. You feel like in another world and forget the world around them. This island can really be described as magical... More
