In 1852 a British ship ran aground in Ishigaki on the way to the USA where the British and American human traffickers killed many of the Chinese laborers. The rest ran away and were given refuge by the locals. Excellent memorial made in 1971 with President of the ROC Chiang Kai-shek writing some calligraphy on the tomb.
