Segregated as well as mixed gender at this 130 year old onsen. The mixed section is cheapest with 600 jpy while segregated costs 1000 jpy. Despite mixed you are supposed to stay in your half of the basin. The ph value is 1 means the water is very acidy up to its hurting in your eyes. Great soba place part... More

If you want to experience a real rustic authentic Onsen then this is the place to go. It is not for the shy as it is exactly how the Japanese experience these type of baths. You will have an experience that you will remember for ever.

We've stayed at Sukayu Onsen for 4 nights during a ski trip to Hakkoda. The onsen is pretty close to the Hakkoda Ropeway, so it is a very good choice for skiers. Free shuttle bus runs from the Onsen until the ski resort. You can finish your day by skiing directly to the Sukayu Onsen. This is an old building... More

This is the first time that Ive tried the mixed onsen. we've stayed in Hakkoda hotel 3 times but never been to this nearby onsen. The water is milky white and has the acidic sulphur smell. Its 43 degrees celcious and when we went there werent many people, most are still at ski slopes! If you are shy they do... More

Sukayu is a very traditional Japanese onsen known for being able to hold 1000 people. The water here is sulphuric so it's white (and smells a bit!) - it's very good for your skin though. I found the water here a lot hotter than at other onsens so be careful not to stay in for too long as you may... More

Sukayu is a very traditional style onsen. The onsen water is soft and soothing. Inside the bath area is pretty dark with only a few light fixtures providing enough ambience. Very cozy and soothing. Don't be surprised when you see people taking a nap on the bath floor. It's a natural thing in Aomori pref.

We visited the Sukayu Onsen Ryokan in May. We drove a rental car up to there although we could take a free shuttle from Shin-Aomori station. It was good one hour drive and we had good drive to Oirase Gorge and Lake Towada next day. The building itself is very traditional and over hundred years old. There are two choices... More

Sukyayu is traditional and very old. If you are familiar with modern onsen, be aware that this one is a little different. There is nowhere to wash before you hop in-just a little area to the side where you can rinse off first. There is nowhere to rinse off afterwards, either. If you are not a hotel guest, you get... This place is old. In a good way. We drove up from Tawada-ko and stopped for the onsen only. 500 yen only. The onsen building itself is very high ceilinged - the echoes adding to the experience. The place has a hotel also, but we did not stay there.
