This place is wonderful to have a morning walk with friends and even family. It is fill with lush green trees. A good place to exercise and relax your mind. After a great workout, you can grab breakfast at the restaurant beside it. There are tons of great local food. An amazing place to grab a bite with your friend and bond together. The people working there are also super friendly.

50 acres of very lush, wooded family recreational park just 1.5 km from the town center but seemed under utilized and not well-maintained. It has 7 lakes used to host fishing competition -- all of the with muddy water. The fountains in the lakes not in operation.
Conceptualized in 1987 with expertise from the University of Technology Malaysia, the main draw of this project is the Children's Adventure Park. Sad to see that the water in both the pools where children play is now also murky.
There are 16 stalls in the Food Court but the afternoon that we visited only 1 other car was parked at the parking lot. I wonder if this park gets more visitors during school holidays.

No budget? But want to spend quality time with your children & want to see them happy? This is definitely the place. Sometimes a free recreational park there will be seller who will sells bubbles, kites or anything to attract our children.End, up we will spend more than any entrance fee to a park. Here, we just need to bring smile & laughter & we could spend few hours without worrying to pay any fee. Could bring food from home & picnic at the side of the water park. Parents could jog & exercise. Elder people could do a brisk walk & walk on the stone. Tired of playing at the waterpark, can play at the playground. No worries if we don't bring food, could go & enjoy the delicious food nearby which is quite famous with local food like lontong kering.

Beside the usual eating and shopping, we decided to start our visit to JB with a nature walk. We took the train at 10 am and it only departed at 10.25 am. Our usual taxi driver, Mr Chai, met us at the taxi area and took us to Hutan Bandar for RM$8. The weather on that day was extremely good for nature walk. However this urban forest would be pleasant on a sunny day too due to the numerous big trees. It appears well maintained and we could see some cleaners doing their job. It is a great place for joggers too as there are many trails to take. The ecological place is now converted to a hub for youth. The orchid garden is pleasant to walk around with the soothing sound of water even though there are not many orchids in bloom. There are a few lakes with bridges connecting the two islands in the middle of the lake. Solar energy is used to light the lamps along the path of the bridges. It is a pity that the water in the lake is muddy "milk tea" colour. The is also a foot reflexology path and exercise zone beside the children's playground. This park is also great for children to explore and play. We went on a weekday mid morning and it was very quiet and serene. We did not have the time to explore Rumah Johor although we admired its exterior. This is a great place to escape from the hectic city life and reconnect with nature. Worth spending at least one and half hour to walk around the different trails and explore. Our driver came back to fetch us to Tebrau area for an inexpensive lunch of bitter gourd soup, kangkong with chilli, pork belly with yam, fish with ginger for RM$52 for three of us. We also shopped at Aeon Tebrau City which has the largest Jusco supermarket here. It has been renovated recently and provides a pleasant shopping experience. Finally our driver picked us up at 4.30 pm and brought us to Ah Koong restaurant for an early dinner. He waited for us to finish dinner before alighting us at JB City Square. Three of us spent RM$202 for two meals and our taxi fare for the whole day.

Like most typical Singaporeans, I used to visit Johor Bahru during the weekends for shopping, gastronomic `makan' (eating), car servicing and pumping cheap petrol as part of my `oversea adventure' into JB. That was when the toll was RM2.90.
I came less often after the toll increased more than five folds. It is not worthwhile now to pay that hefty toll just for that cheap things even when the ringgit has plummeted to that low exchange rate.
Most scary is that long traffic jam at the causeway which I never expect it to deteriorate when the toll raised. Probably due to the better diplomatic relationship between both nations, it took me almost 3 to 4 hours to queue in the heavy traffic jam on both sides of the causeway. In the long run, I potentially would develop hemorrhoids and kidney stones due to the cramped and constraint sitting position with both hands on the steering wheels under the heat in that small car compartment.
But other than shops and eateries, there is this Hutan Bandar Recreational Park that I used to visit. It is like our Botanical Garden in Singapore. It is a jewel in the city just like what the English translated version of her name. The air is fresh with all that greenery and beautiful landscape around.
I came across this Hutan Bandar during a google search and decided to visit this `green' place.I was rather confused when I followed the google map. I drove into the wrong direction towards Larkin from Tebrau area. When I passed by Holiday Plaza, I stopped to ask someone who misdirected me again and I ended up driving towards the same direction. Fortunately, I saw the road signboard along the expressway that pointed towards Hutan Bandar and I finally found it. This was my first initial painstaking effort to find this `jewel'.
In fact, if you cross the johore immigration checkpoint, you just drive straight over the ramp until you reach a traffic road junction and then turn right and enter a slip road on your left and you will find Hutan Bandar. It is just a 5 min drive from the checkpoint. My attempt to reach the place from Tebrau area was a rather long drive and the roads in Johore Bahru became a maze to me.
I went there early in the morning most of the times and I saw locals exercising at the compound. The park is free admission and there is a small food court near the wooden bridge and after the exercise some of them proceeded to have their nasi lemak at that small food court.
It is relaxing and refreshing walking around the park lookinig at the plants, trees and beautiful landscapes. The cool sprinkling water from the fountain provides that cool ambience and your heart became calmer when you look at the slow meandering of the water in the stream.
Just focus your eyes at those natural flora and fauna and you will enjoy the atmosphere and as you walk briskly around the greenery, you would feel your lungs fill with fresher air than those at the polluted road junction. The Malay architectural huts, chalets, the artistic vases and the brick wall European like architectural office building also blend well with the surrounding.
It is mesmerizing and an escape from the `madding crowd' in that early moments of the day. You can just relax yourself on a bench near the pond and listen to the rhymes and rhythm of nature and enjoy that flagrance from the flowers that pervade the air.
I like this recreational park it is indeed a jewel in the city of JB.

U wont probably ever think of having such a beautiful park in the city... when u walk in, there is a walkway with a pond where i can see a lot of beautiful kap fish.. after that u may see a lake with a lot of tortoise.. i suggest u to start with the alley on the right most.. u will see a beautiful traditional house.. its open for visit during the office hour only.. if u cont walking pass this house, u may enter an orkid garden in ur right.. there are a lot of species of orkids with variety of colors.. but there are a few abandon area like a building with a few stones in a shape frogs and turtles surrounding it.. but not really sure what is the place built for.. looking at it, most probably it is for exhibition of some kind.. but its empty now.. and on the higher ground in the park, its also a bit bushie and i found a snake on the walkway during my visit.. so, u must be very careful...

I always went here for breakfast but its never come to my mind that there is a huge recreational park behind the wooden restaurant and secondary school. The park is made up from many water landscape, creative sculptures, jogging track, orchid garden, traditional house and pools for children. It gave different experience from Hutan Bandar Mutiara Rini, another similar recreational park under Centra JB Municipal Council.

I did not see any camp site. You probably need to seek the permission of the authority. There were people having picinics there.
