- rennietkmKuala Selangor, Malaysia1 contributionGreat place to visitWe had spent a great time there. We would like to recommend everyone who visit Ipoh must list Ho Yan Hor Museum into your itinerary. Besides, thank you for maintaining the historic building in good condition.Thank you for the recommendation and we are glad to learn that you have pleasant time spent at HYHM. At this pre-war heritage building, Dr Ho's used to live upstairs with his family and started his herbal tea business in front of the shop. Thus, the setup of HYHM is meaningful and memorable.Written 26 February 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2019Travelled with familyWritten 16 February 2020
- Inspiration3794142 contributionsAmazing HYH MuseumThe tour guide is professional and distinctly clear in giving info about the various items displayed in HYH museum. All questions by attendees were answered very well. I was impressed by his professionalism. Items displayed in museum were well arranged and kept. Kudos to HYH. HYH products on sale should be at a bigger discount so that visitors can enjoy the privilege of buying. Only a small discount was offered. Overall the visit was a worthwhile. We enjoy our visits and thank the management of HYH for investing in the setting up of the said museum. History should be preserved for future generations. By knowing the past, we can learn about past mistakes and hence make better decisions. Thank you HYH!Thank you for your advice – your feedback helps us get better. We are glad that HYHM didn't fail to impress you with the cooling health tea in the cooling ambiance of the little blue heritage building. The museum brings fond memories to many and we do hope the sharing from the past until present enable us to learn from the old days and we need to work hard for a better future. Lastly, we look forward to see you at HYHM again.Written 17 November 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2019Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2020
- Toys Samurai51 contributionsAn unexpected hidden gemFirst thing first, I did not even plan to visit this museum. The only reason why I wandered in is because it was just too damn hot that day, and they have air condition. But call it a surprise, this little museum is both informational and nicely designed. Being a museum dedicated to a single business, it inevitably presents a single point of view only. Nevertheless, the "Ho Yan Hor" brand is an important part of Ipoh, and Malaysia's Chinese immigrant history, visitor can still get a peek at the changes of that particular segment of the Malaysia population. The building itself was originally the resident of the founder of the company, and we were warned that only one person should be stepped on the stair at one time. All the information there is presented in chronological order and the interior is very well designed. In fact, comparing to many other places in Ipoh, this museum not only retains a trace of the history, but also infuses the vintage decoration with a hipster sense.Thank you for taking time to leave wonderful briefing on HYHM at Trip Advisor. We are glad to learn that you discovered HYHM which lead to a joyful surprise and pleasant experience. It's our responsibility to promote local culture and heritage of Ipoh and to share the inspirational story of Dr Ho to the public. We look forward to your visits again with your friends and families.Written 2 April 2020This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2020Written 27 March 2020

Chinese immigrants made a difference by adding opulence to this country.
This museum has definitely opened our eyes and awareness to Mr Ho Yan Hor’s passion and dedications.

We wanted to see how this great Chinese herbal physician developed his company after the second world war. The place is conveniently located and is near Concubine Lane. We had to wait 45 minutes for the next tour but we were just us for that tour. The lady who gave a short history was so enthusiastic and informative. Then you go up the stairs one at a time to view the antiques. Marvelous collection. When finished you get a tea tasting and the teas were so good we bought several boxes. Had we larger suitcases, we would have bought more. Now when we see cans of Ho Yan Hor in vending machines we know what it is and will buy some. Dr. Ho is succeeded by his son David and the company is now Hovid.

This was a really interesting museum which tells a rags to riches story, through war and hard work to the tea empire it is today. Still family-run, although now more mechanised than in the days gone by. I found the story uplifting. There is no pressure whatsoever to buy the tea after the tasting which I really liked. Our guide was great and the staff were very kind and helpful even doing an online booking for the Pet Soo which is nextdoor.

Greeted by the museum ambassador for a free tour outside the museum as we passed by.
The journey of Ho Yan Hor was neatly arranged and easy for understanding.
Most importantly, grounded and inspiring!
We bought the tea back and it helps so much especially so during such hot weather. And continued to purchase more teas from their official website at Shopee msia.
Would be awesome if all flavours are sold in Singapore as well.
Anyway, would recommend to anyone coming to Ipoh!

The museum was a well thought out and insightful exhibition of Dr Ho’s work, and also Ho Yan Hor herbal tea. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and made the visit very smooth. A good way to spend time given the hot weather in Ipoh!

Though unplanned (I didn’t know about the museum before going) I loved my time here. Lovely guide, interesting exhibit and you get to taste all the teas they make.
