Nazlina's cooking classes are held at Nazlina Spice Station daily except on...

Nazlina's cooking classes are held at Nazlina Spice Station daily except on Sundays. The market tour covers both Campbell Street market and Chow Rasta market. Nazlina conducts the cooking classes while her partner Peter conducts the market tour. As market tour is only available in the morning, people who opt for the afternoon class may join the morning tour and then come later for the afternoon cooking session. Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear. Hats and sunglasses are recommended. Bring umbrellas or water proof jackets if it rains. During reservation, please advise any dietary requirements or allergy if applicable. Rate is RM225.00 Per person (AM class) and RM180.00 per person for the afternoon class (without breakfast or market tour). Please note that only clients who paid for the experience are allowed to join the market tour and the cooking class to be fair to other full paying clients. Nazlina has been featured in New York Times' 36 Hours in Penang, on the BBC good food channel, as well as several in-flight magazines. She built the business single-handedly, starting with renting out garden spaces to hold her classes and now the proud owner of a 100 year old shophouse in the heart of the heritage zone in George Town. All equipment in the cooking area are of the best quality such as German made stainless steel pots, steamers, pans and woks. Knives are sharpened by our local knife sharpener at the market. Partners or friends who wish to join for breakfast as well as the market tour and later for lunch that cooking class students made can do so at an additional cost of RM50 per person. These options can be requested in advance when you make your reservation. Deadline for booking is at 8pm before the day, or 12 noon for the afternoon class. We would appreciate if you observe this deadline and book ahead so that it is easier for us to plan the logistics. Thank you.

Nazlina's cooking class was easily the highlight of my 3-day stay in Penang. The class starts with a wonderful tour of the neighborhood's markets and vendors. Naz infuses the tour with more than just information about food. She provides interesting (and often amusing) historical anecdotes. Additionally, the tour involves tasting many products and items that I would likely have passed... More

I wasn't sure what to expect, having read Nazlina's site - she comes across as fairly brusque, but in person she is enthusiastic, passionate and warm, open to sharing her experience and knowledge. She was making a tapioca cake at the request of one of the attendees and readily 'fessed up to not having used her oven for baking for... More

If you wish to sample and learn how to cook authentic local cuisine, Nazlina's spice station is not to be missed. We started with breakfast followed by an informative tour of the local wet market, where we sampled different fruits and fresh coconut milk. Nazlina was very accommodating with dietary requirements and also asked if we wanted to learn how... More

This was a terrific experience!!! We met, chatted, had breakfast, went to markets, & cooked. We learned a lot of interesting info about the local food & culture while walking around & I really like the way the cooking class was organized. We were asked to prep the various things for the meal--lots of chopping, which made it clear how... More

This really has been the highlight of my trip - Nazlina was spirited and interesting, and the accompanying staff were helpful and kind. Set in a bright and airy upstairs area, you can look out over the market and George Town waking up (when you arrive at 7.30 - don't worry there's some delicious coffee on offer!). After a trip... After exploring the local markets to buy our ingredients, we spent the morning learning to cook the best Penang food from passionate and knowledgable Nazlina. It tasted so very good.

Nazlina was a fun and knowledgeable instructor who made the class a lot of fun. Good techniques were taught and then we all did the cooking. Even more fun was the eating. Highly recommended.

My mother (who is 90 and a good cook always interested in learning more) and I spent a rainy Saturday morning with Nazlina, a woman following her passion for cooking and sharing. Deceptively casual, the morning was really well structured - over breakfast brought from a nearby stall (roti - yum!) we agreed what dishes we would cook and our... More

Highly recommended cooking class + market tour. We had a great morning exploring the area, local shops and trying some local food and spices. After this you help prepping the food and cooking your own meal, there were a few different dishes which were all delicious. Nazlina and her Dutch husband are very friendly and welcoming and make it a... More
