Just 100 m from the Astana there is a quiet Orchid Park - no entry fee. A waterfall and a nice walkaway. In hot days you would welcome the cooling house on the right side.

The garden was difficult to find as there aren't enough signposts, but only "mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun". There were few people walking about to ask directions. Best to get a taxi. We walked from the Astana and was told...More

Well, what's in the name. There are loads of orchids in this garden. It's free, the flowers are beautiful, they have many species. Wouldn't spend too much time here, but it's nice to kill time if you have time spare.

We visit in the beginning of August but there were almost no orchids at all. In this time of year it is useless to visit these gardens.

The biggest challenge was getting there. It should be easy. It actually IS easy. A little river boat crossing near the new steel suspension bridge under construction cost 1 Ringgit. Then 200m walk directly away from the river. Everyone loves orchids, even if they don't...More

I can't remember the opening hours but definitely take a little ferry across the river and walk. It is not far at all. You can't go in but you can see the Astana and Chief Ministers residence on either side of the road. The... More
