Spent every day here for a stroll, afternoon tea, evening meal/ tagines, shopping in the souk, meeting and making friends, enjoying the atmosphere and entertainment etc Lovely place - highly recommended

The medina and port are great for photography. Please be aware that not all residents care to be phographed. Best to ask if you can speak French

We did a day trip from Marrakech to Essaouira. The place is a nice quiet change from Marrakech with a large sandy beach and fishing port. The Medina has some nice restaurants and shops which are calmer and with less hassle than those in Marrakech!...More

This was our introduction to Morocco, and the medina was a bit of a culture shock. However, after visiting Marrakesh and Fez, I appreciated the Essaouira medina much more, as it was a little more pleasant to walk around.

It's about 2 hours from Marrakesh, costs about 1000 Dhs for private car. Ours was easily arranged by our Dar (small hotel).
