You have to walk though the narrow souks to find the entrance. The castle was renovated 20 yrs ago and gives you the feeling that you are back at the times it was originally built. Spend a hour walking up and down steps in and out of little rooms and go to the top where there are amazing views over... More

Very informative information supplied as you proceed through the fort. Go early as it gets very busy in the middle of the day. Friday's are busy too as the Goat market is nearby and only happens on Friday.

We clearly aren't very good at this adventurous stuff, we parked the car next to the souk then tried to find the entrance on foot and got hopelessly lost and ended up in someone's house. Fun times. Anyway the fort was tarted up very nicely in 1995 and looks lovely both inside and out. There are numerous stairs and rooms... More

Nicely restored, very central being adjacent to the souks and cattle market. Plenty of free parking nearby. It's very popular so was quite busy with locals and tourists when we visited. Exhibitions were very interesting covering everything from natural history through to present day. The climb up the tower us easily manageable and the views are impressive out to the... More

You cannot come to Nizwa and not see this place. It complement the visit of the souq nearby, after enjoying tasting few dates for having enouhg energy to clim to the top of the fort for the best view point.

Nizwa and the surrounding countryside is where many tourist visit. Only an hour or so from Muscat you can visit the Fort on a day trip. For ½ a Rial you can spend a good hour here looking at the well presented exhibits and experience what it would have been like to have lived here - under siege. A climb... More

The fort is cheap to enter and right next to Nizwa's famous souk, so it's worth visiting. The main things it has going for it are its unique circular(ish) tower and the museum section, and it's definitely an interesting stop if you're only in Oman for a few days and coming on a day trip from Muscat. However, I did... More

Visited Nizwa Fort mid morning. It was hot, but not too busy, The Fort itself is absolutely stunning. It so well looked after. It is well worth a visit if you are interested in Omani history as Nizwa was once The Capital City of Oman. The views from the top of the walls is breathtaking, flat rooftops surrounded by miles... Intriguing history as well as impressive defense system in place for protecting this once promenant trading post. Worth the visit!

Everything in this cluster is easily doable in a half day. Most people start early with the goat market if here on a Friday which is advisable. Start at dawn with the livestock, move through the souk and finish with the Fort and attached museum. Finish with a mosque visit and then grab brunch at a cafe overlooking the souk.
