Overall, learning rehabilitation for howler monkeys, working alongside local Panamanians and the location of the sanctuary was positive and a good experience. The monkeys were well taken care of, was one of the better rehabilitation centers in Panama and with more people various research protocols could take place (first priority are the monkeys). However, there were several issues with operations... More

I had a great time at the Alouatta Sanctuary. I traveled to Panama on a study abroad trip and spent two days at the Alouatta Sanctuary and Batipa Field Institute. I learned so much about the program from Seth and the other people working there. It was very interesting to learn about way that monkeys interact with each other and... More

This was one of our favorite experiences in Panama. The sanctuary is lovely. Our guide, Ben, was very personable, pleasant, and knowledgeable. The monkeys were So interesting and fun to watch. The dog greeters were an added bonus! And the homemade lunch was a lovely way to end our visit. Excellent experience!!

It's not Alouetta lodge but Alouetta sanctuary! The site is not at all the same and you have to pay 25 dollars if you are going on Friday! The other day you have to pay 100 dollars per group (between 1 et 4). We went another day and we paid 100 dollars for 2 and when we arrived we learned... More

My friend and I found this incredible place on a fluke. People there were very welcoming and the monkeys so lovely! I was glad to know that the mission wasn't only to rehabilitate monkeys, which they successfully do, but also to build relationship with local people and educate them about conservation. It's a beautiful and enjoyable place to gain experience... More

The Students Without Borders Academy has just returned home after 37 days in Panama. A highlight for all of us was our five day visit to Alouatta Sanctuary. The Outstanding leadership - impassioned and competent - infused our group with optimism and a sense of responsibility. If not us, WHO? if not now, WHEN? We look forward to keeping in... More

A hard place to find or even get a hold of on the telephone, but a great way to spend an afternoon surrounded by howler monkeys, beautiful plants and well informed staff. It is a good cause. And what a view all the way to the pacific!

Sharing a few hours at this sanctuary gave us an opportunity to learn more about the challenges, successes and vision held by this dedicated group. The drive up the road was an adventure in itself - 4x4 only! The hike through the property would not be considered 'easy' as the damp floor and some elevations made trekking a bit tricky... More

This was an amazing trip for us. We had to leave our car at the bottom of the mountain, and we caught a ride up with some of the interns who had a 4x4 (100% necessary). It's also a possible 30-45 minute hike if you're up for it. We were greeted by two monkey friends who wanted to play with... More

I've heard of this place by accident. It is actually closer to David than Boquete and it is difficult to reach. Therefore you call the owners a few day in advance. Then you can take a bus and at a meeting point they pick you up. I just visited for few hours to take photos. The howler monkeys are amazing.... More
