This archaeological zone, an excellent example of pre-Colombian America, once served as the capital of the Chimu Kingdom, which reached the height of its power in the 15th century before falling under the Incas.

Unique archeological site. Amazing that after 500 years these structures are still around and thankfully the government recognizes their historical significance and the tourism potential. You can visit only 1 of the 9 large palaces, mainly because the rest still has to be excavated. Because...More

Best to get a tour guide to talk about the history. We went on fiestas patrias and it was full of people.

If you are in Trujillo, you have to visit Chan-Chan, It's amazing how the ancient people were so smart and strong to build such a great building just with Adobe.

Visited this site last in a full day of learning primarily about the Moche civilization. This may account for the fact that I was not wowed. Spend less that an hour.

Please visit together with Huaca de la Luna and del Sol to get the whole picture. This site has more English signage which helps but a guide is necessary to get the real detail. Again go early as tour crowds arrive after 11.00hrs.
