How to reach -
Take a jeep or taxi. All drivers know it. It is 5 minutes walk from Sto Nino chapel.

Tip :
Avoid coming here during the day (9 am to 4 pm) - it is open and gets pretty sunny and hot

The only thing special about Plaza Indpendencia is it's history - or rather, the history of it's name (it was changed repeatedly, based on it's purpose and the whims of the colonial masters). It finally got it's current name when the Americans left Philippines.

There is a big metal sign that details this history and is worth reading (it is on the entrance closer to the street across Sto Nino Bascilica - which is 5 minutes walk)

Urdaneta memorial is a white obelisk in one part of the park.

Else, there really is nothing much of interest here - just a few young boys and girls practicing their dance.

While Fort San Pedro is interesting to see, there is nothing much to see in Plaza Independencia. Of course, it would have been different if they had put more signs with stories of occurences in this plaza.

One point in Cebu that you can be guided to anywhere. It is accessible to the Piers, easy access to get a ride going to the oldest street, Colon, to the main market, Carbon, to another destination. Almost all passenger jeepneys can pass here.

The famous landmark Port San Pedro is just at the next block. You can also walk to the Cathedral and to the Famous Magellan's Cross. Basilica de Santo Nino is just close.

This Plaza is a landmark to anywhere in Cebu. It is clean and well maintained.

Located just in front of Fort San Pedro, this historic park is definitely the biggest in Cebu City. The plaza is very well maintain and manage. It is very clean, it has rest rooms nearby and has rooming blue guards. Kudos for Cebu City Government for a well done job!👏👏👏. It is big and free for public. It is a very good place for relaxation and for jogging.

You would not get up in the morning and think.....I must go and see Plaza Independencia today.

It is mostly just a big open space.

But it is the big open space in front of the Fort San Pedro, So take the time to look around while you visit the fort.

You will see lots of people there on Sunday but it is very empty the rest of the week.

There is a children's playground on site. There are a couple of old Tartanilla's, horse drawn carriages. There are a few monuments.

It will not be obvious but there is a tunnel under the Plaza Independencia to assist with traffic flow from Cebu City to Talisay City along the SRP, otherwise known as the Cebu Coast Road.

If you are interested in cebu's history, this is one place to be at besides the musuem sugbo. Do take a brief walk around the plaza as there are some sculptures and memorium. It is just next to the Fort San pedro.

Well, I am from cebu and Plaza independencia is on my bucketlist i dont know why but i just include it since its one of the tourispot here in cebu. I was thankful to my Brother because his the reason why i had the chance to visit this place, He has this kind of project in the school to visit some tourispot that only in the city so Plaza independecia is no. 1 on his list.Actually never had the chance to visit on my own because my mother always says that its dangerous area many thiefs, robber etc etc so for me its not good idea to travel alone here so i was expecting also its a dirty place but the truth is it was totally opposite to what i was expecting it is clean they also have security guard so it is really totally safe for you to go alone,so you can stay as much as you want because its really a good ambiance, good to stay if you feel stress and so better bring your loves because most people coming here is with their friends or gf/bf.You can also go to forth san pedro the entrance fee is 30 as of january 2017 but i dont recommend this place since its nothing much to see but if you love painting and pictures of history of cebu you can have slightest idea where it all started. So come and visit Plaza indepencia enjoy and have fun. 😊😀😀👍

A short 5 minute walk from the Cross of Magellan or the Santo Nino Basilica will bring you to the Plaza Independencia which underwent a series of name changes from Plaza de Armas during the Spanish rule until its present name to commemorate when the colonial masters left the Philippines. It is ironic that there is an obelisk honoring Miguel de Legaspi, the first Spanish governor general of the Philippines. There is a public skating rink so locals may roller skate or blade or for students to practice their dances, choral presentations or cheers. Across this plaza is Fort San Pedro,. You can also leisurely stroll to the Post Office and to Pier 1.

The Plaza Independencia is strategically located by the side Fort San Pedro. Just take a jeepney heading towards carbon market and they will drop you at the plaza.

The plaza is a popular place for people to hangout especially couples and for the elderly to exercise, jog. It is one huge garden filled with trees, ornamental plants and flowers. There is also a public skating rink and a kiosk at the center of the circular skating rink.

An obelisk was built to dedicated the obelisk to the memory of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the first Spanish governor-general of the Philippines, is planted at the very heart of the plaza.

Other then its historical status there is nothing much here but a nice green patch of land for relaxation.

Plaza Independencia is located next to the fort, free to walk around and enjoy, big space, with lots of grassed areas, monuments and market stalls to see.

Nice area to sit in the shade and watch the locals go by, Philippines gets crazy hot and humid, so a nice green space to sit in and relax is craved for!!
