A very inspiring memorial to Douglas MacArthur and his entourage on his return to the Philippines. A great photo opportunity the way the memorial was constructed. Just a few minutes away from the city of Tacloban, well worth the visit. The statutes command respect as they are larger than life. The memorial and statutes are a well kept tribute. Thanks... More

The design of this monument is very well done. The pool seems to meet the sea and the statues appear to be actually wading out of the water. The surrounding park is beautiful and well maintained.

General McArthur survived the 2013 Thypoon Yolanda. Rest of the park is still under repair. I was surprised to see many tourists there. Very relaxing to walk around.

For years I have dreamed about seeing this Memorial. I was in awe of seeing the statues and to be able to see the seen in my mind based on the books written about the point in history. I wold recommend taking the time to visit this site and think about what the men and women did for us, both... More

Travel from Tacloban to Palo takes a while. It's about 16 kilometers and we rode the trike going to this place. It's a simple and plain memorial. The landing spot is huge--which allows you to take good photos. Not much in the area. Just this memorial

Very moving site for reflection of the power of a promise kept and the dedication and determination of many for the greater good of many more. A very reliant reminder for the modern and near future times from the no so distant past. History provides many lessons for us to learn from and this part of history appears to be... More

My 8th grade English teacher affirmed my hopes of one day visiting this place, as he had told me stories of having been present at the landings, and of actually witnessing General MacArthur's landing party as it waded ashore at Leyte. I was surprised to find that the statues were situated in a small park, and were not life sized,... More

The site of MacArthur’s return has become a park. No longer does the word “red” in “Red Beach” readily summon the blood shed especially during the Battle of Leyte. Now, during more peaceful times, the Leyte Landing Memorial Park (also called the MacArthur Park) has become not just a place to re-live history but also to relax and play.

Hopefully this memorial will stimulate interest in reading about the terrible loss of life in WWII and the cruelty of a nation that believed it was superior to all others and that its emperor was a god. American forces lost over 16,000 killed in the Philippines campaign alone whereas the Japanese suffered over 300,000 deaths. These figures are unbelievable by... More
