If you travel to Murmanks you must visit this place, even in winter with -20. Is a memorial for the Defender, is the first visit to do in the city and the place has "something" that made you want to be there. Also there is...More

This huge monument is visible from points across Murmansk and is probably one of the few must-see sites when you are there. It's quite a long trek from the city but still possible to walk (I managed it). Great views over the bay and Murmansk....More

Impressive monument and a nice view over the city. Might be busy on weekends. Parking place just besides it.

Used Google maps to navigate there - free parking and easy to walk around the monuments. Lots of locals - many trying out roller skates. Great views of Murmansk and the eternal flame/memorial is very evocative.

Murmansk was a critical port for Russia in World War 2. The Germans made a major effort to capture the city, and were (fortunately) turned back by the defenders. They deserve the massive monument overlooking Kola Bay. Easiest way to get here is by road....More

It was s cold dull day but this did not stop a wedding party from using this as a back drop to their photographs. We did not spend long here, just enough time to take photos & enjoy the views.

During the last world war Murmansk was bombarded from Germany from Finland and Norway in order to destroy this important port. More bombs were only dropped in Stalingrad. Unfortunately, the monument was build only for Russians, but luckily for us our guide gave us translations...More
