It is a beautiful theater with some extremely talented performers and musicians. We got to be there for the opening of the 184th season (can you believe it?) - and it was fantastic! They played Puccini's La Boheme and it was done beautifully! Everything from singing to music to the decorations was amazing!

We were in Russia just after the Bolshoi ended and just before the Mariinsky (Kirov) started. My mother and I are dancers and we wanted to see a ballet in the heart of ballet culture. The Mikhailovksy did not disappoint. We saw a production of Le Corsair (not often performed in the States) and the whole experience was wonderful. The... More

It is a very old theater and when fully seated it is not very comfortable. I sat right at the top, in the middle of the last row. The chairs were close together so there was no room to move about. A Russian old lady sat next to me but she left in the middle of the show perhaps it... More

Beautiful, colorful and professional choreography in a dignified environment. 2 first acts are turbulent and speedy, the 3rd act more classic with solo performances. The catering is now done by the restaurant chain Ginza, tasty food and good & qualitative assortment of drinks. Although recommended from the age of 12, smaller children are welcomed accompanied by parents. But as the... More

I expected a theater like seating on the main floor but instead, seats were lined-2 columns with a main center aisle. We were promised a balcony seat but instead got seats on the main floor but closer to the stage. Theater is old but very clean. It is close to several museums that we passed by and across a small... The theater is stunning...the sets are absolute perfection...costumes are gorgeous...music is sublime and the dancers are perfectly synchronized and never miss a step! WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE??? I took my husband...who moaned...groaned..whined...and complained for days on end. As we left the performance, he told me he was so glad I purchased the tickets. Go. You will not regret it!

If one goes to Russia, a must do is see a ballet. we were lucky enough to get tickets of SWAN LAKE on the same day of the show. honestly it was a great experience as the theater made me feel like i was in 15th 16th century. The different high floors and boxes of the theater was quite intimidating. Such... More

If you want to say you went to a Russian ballet by all means go. If you are expecting to see great Russian ballet you will be disappointed. When the corps de ballet sounds like a herd of elephants coming across the stage and they can't stay in sync you know something's wrong! The theatre itself was the best part... More

We had the absolute privilege of seeing this beautiful ballet performed to perfection. We bought our tickets just before the show began and only paid 900 rubles a ticket. We were sitting up in the gods, but the show was spectacular and it saved us heaps of money!! I am sure it would have been even better down lower! Costumes... More

When I first looked into the ballet in St Petersburg, most of the reviews I read suggested visiting the Mirkinsky theatre-the more grand and expensive of the two. The Mirknsky for that particular evening however, was all booked, so I booked tickets for the Mikhailovsky. I must say that I am incredibly glad that I made this decision, we were... More
