The statue represents Peter the Great, the city's founder. It's an absolute must-see for anybody visiting St Petersburg because it's one of the most iconic symbols of the city. Tip: there is a very nice playground in the park right behind the statue, your children will enjoy it. There's also a public toilet in a small house not far away... More

Good photo opportunity, nothing special though. Located next to a park, pleasant walk. Another thing ticked off the list of sights.

I have waited years to see this famous statue and I was not disappointed. It is spectacular and commands a wonderful position in the gardens close to the river and backed by St Isaac's. The craftsmanship is quite amazing and it is beautifully preserved and protected by railings, the railings do not detract from this imposing statue.

Very impressive. Carefully calculated so that the horse could balance on two legs. It is a beautiful statue in memory of an amazing emperor.

Among the many statues you find in Russia and St. Petersburg this statue beats them all. It is a very characteristic and powerful masterpiece, based on a very big stone, which has been shipped there with tremendoues effort. Have a look and admire!
