We have chosen a nice sunny day as it’s a bit of a walk from Gorkovskaya metro station. The ship is recently restored and looks great! The exhibition inside is probably easier to follow with a guide. Overall you probably need an hour maximum so...More

Visited the Aurora Battleship knowing very little about it to begin with but left after with a little more information to hand. There are only a few areas where information about the ship is written in English, however, events in the early nineteenth century which...More

The Aurora if famed as firing "the shot heard round the world" in John Reeds rather feverish description of the capture by the Bolsheviks of The Winter Palace in October 1917. The shot was a blank and a signal rather than an offensive missile and...More

We made a quick stop to see this ship and our guide told us about some of it's history. It is impressive and very well cared for.

The cruiser saw action in WWI and in the Communist revolution of 1917 when the big gun was used as a signal to storm the Winter Palace. Before WWII, the guns were removed from the ship for use elsewhere and, during WWII, the ship was...More

Apparently Aurora fired the blank round that signalled the storming of the winter palace in 1917. She is very well maintained and has a very good series of exhibits below decks. Well worth a visit.
