About
This simply designed bridge crossing the Neva River is best known for the magnificent view it creates when its elevated platforms frame the gilded spire of the SS Peter & Paul Cathedral rising in the background.

Central bridge with great downtown views
Apr 2021
While considering the name one could expect a more lavish and decorated bridge, Palace bridge is in fact a simple one connecting the Vasileysky island with the mainland close by the Winter Palace.
I suggest crossing it, as from both sides you'll capture amazing downtown views. We did that walking from the Peter and Paul's fortress to Hermitage.
Another prime attraction is coming here around 1.30 AM. All bridges in downtown St. Pet are drawing bridges to allow vessels pass beneath them.
We did that 2 nights in row, but unfortunately it did not happen so we left disappointed with many others. It seems drawing times are not guaranteed.

Saint Petersburg is a city that you want to return to
Jul 2019
One of the main attractions of St. Petersburg can rightly be called the Palace bridge. The five-span bridge connects Admiralteysky island with the Vasilevsky arrow, Palace passage and Exchange square. The divorced Central double-winged span is one of the city's business cards. By the time of the divorce of the Palace Bridge, tourists gathered on both sides of the Big Neva, and night excursions were carried out on the ships to watch this amazing sight.

White Nights - Best Things to do in St Petersburg during this festival
Jun 2019
Probably the best time to see and enjoy Palace Bridge is during the wonderful White Nights Festival which takes place during and either side of shortest night of year 21st June. During this time the whole city exudes a wonderful atmosphere as people from various parts of Russia , as well as further afield , enjoy spectacular short nights and long relaxing days.
The streets and squares along the Neva river throng with life and large crowds gather to celebrate the raising of the many bridges, particularly around Palace Bridge. It genuinely is carnival like in its atmosphere and many people stay up all night to maximise the experience.

It is very family friendly and joy to be part of this lovely festival

Really wide drawing bridge
Dec 2019
Of the three main bridges across the Neva, this is probably the most impressive. it connects the Palace Square and Admiralty with Vasilyevsky Island, the control booth is by the Admiralty. This bridge allows cars and pedestrians to use the bridge, thus when raining you might be splashed a little, try walking near the handrail. In December and January is never hoisted, so we figured out the parts that elevate while walking over it. During this month is very nicely decorated with soft white and white strings of lights.

Very nice bridge in St. Petersburg
Nov 2018 • Friends
Palace Bridge is one of the some bridges located in the wonderful city of St. Petersburg, in the North-Western region of Russian Federation. It is a nice bridge, which links the zone of the Hermitage and Vasilevski Island. It is very nice and from here you can see wonderful views of the city. It is a centrical point, so I am sure, if you visit the city, you will cross it.

If you are in St. Petersburg in summer...you cannot miss
Jul 2019
It is a special feeling: white night, music all over, people walking, young dancing....and the bridges raising. If you put San Isaac dome or Peter and Paul Fortress on the back of your picture, than you will have Petersburg essence. They raise the drawbridges in St Petersburg at night for larger boats to pass but this is for tourists and even locals not important: the event is to enjoy the atmosphere.
It is a tradition for even locals to go and admire the procedure, but be careful not to get stuck in the wrong side or you will have to wait until they close again.
Being on the Palace Bridge you can also see the next bridge to the opened.
You may thake the option of the raising drawbridge boat tour. You get a closer view of the spectacular occasion. Carefull at the price; make sure you discuss it before!!!!!!
I will suggest you not to miss the occasion.

Bridge opens at 1.15 in the morning with lights and accompanying music
Jul 2019 • Friends
Several bridges open at night along the Neva River to allow passage of large ships. Palace Bridge drew large crowds both on the river bank and on boats on the water. It is a colorful spectacle. However, having seen road bridges open in other parts of the world, I found this over-rated expecially as we had to visit in the middle of the night. Didn't see any large ships pass through. Perhaps this is just a tourist gimic today.

Take a boat ride
Jul 2019 • Friends
In 1901, they had a competition as to who should design the bridge and it took over eight years to choose a winner, and construction started in 1912. But it was not until 1939 that the intricate parts of the bridge were completed like the lion sculptures, railing and lampposts, etc. it now carries 30,000 cars a day. Beautiful bridge in beautiful St Petersburg. You can’t miss it since you will be passing it when you visit the various palaces, palace square, etc. Better yet, take a boat tour as it gives you a different perspective of the buildings on the boat versus by car or bus.

Definately must see and experience 👏

They raise the drawbridges in St Petersburg at night for larger boats to pass. It is a tradition for even locals to go and admire the procedure, but be careful not to get stuck to the other side since there are time slots the bridges are again down and you can drive over them 😁 if it is a calm, warm evening, then it is a marvellous thing to see. Being on the Palace Bridge you can also see the next bridge to the opened. Therefore it is also worth to the raising drawbridge boat tour. You get closer view of the spectacular occasion. 💝 Everything is lit up and the anxiousness comes creeping in while you look at your watch to see the marvel to happen 👏 very special! Loved it! 😻
