One more imperial theatre with opera, drama and ballet performances on its repertoire. This Alexandrinsky Theater is located in Ostrovskogo Square behind the monument to Catherine the Great. We didn't chance to see any of the spectacles in this theatre but enjoyed for awhile in the walking around the Theater and looking from different perspectives at the surrounding area. The... More

We saw the Swan Lake at the Alexandrinsky Theater. It was a beautiful ballet. The theater was smaller than how it looked in pictures however the detailing was exquisite. They had a small cafe to get snacks at during intermission and before the show. The pies and drink selection there were great. You can bring food and drink into the... More

We went August 22, 2016 to this theater for a performance of Swan Lake. Our loge box and several of the boxes around us had much of the performance ruined by people taking video or flash pictures while the performance was proceeding. Some of the people were told to stop by ushers, but continued on videoing. The performance was ok... More

When in Russia one has to go to see a ballet and if the Mariinsky is sold out go to the next best thing. We enjoyed Swan lake and hopes that Good and white will prevail. Well it did and happily we went home hamming to ourself. What a night.

The Viking Ocean Cruise offered an excursion to see Swan Lake in St. Petersburg, and who could refuse to watch a ballet in Russia? The theater was amazing, the costumes and sets were amazing, and the two female principal dancers were excellent. The male dancer was pretty pathetic. It was difficult to find the bathrooms and the area for drinks... More

Lovely architecture throughout. Ornate staircases, chandeliers, rich carpeting and the "proper uniformed" ushers make you fell like entering a world of the years gone by. A truly memorable evening.

From the outside this theatre is grand. From the inside it is spectacular. Yes spectacular! The dancing was extremely professional to the untrained eye. The lead dancers were incredibly gifted and talented and carried their moves with amazing grace! Was difficult as an English speaker only to find seats but eventually found an English speaker to help who guided us... More

Lavishly draped in gold and velvet, that is the impression of the Alexandrinsky Theater. It is absolutely gorgeous. We had middle seats at the "space behind the armchairs", a semi circle at the back of the main floor. These were pretty good and the stage was quite unobstructed. However, it would have been better to be in the front of... More

We attended a performance of Swan Lake and were very impressed with the ballet. The theater is absolutely gorgeous and it was worth paying for the ballet just to see the theater. Their are no bad seats and it is much smaller than I thought it would be. A memorable night in the city of St. Petersburg.

Beautiful performance of Swan Lake. Impressive building as you drive up and the performance itself is the same. Lots of gold embellishments and red draping etc. what you would expect. Theater sets were first rate. We sat 5 rows from orchestra pit and were able to here the dancers steps. Majority of these attending were tourists I suspect so there... More
