Just going east off the Fontanka River toward Smolny Cathedral, we reached at the place of that congenial relatively small green area, in the Potemkinskaya str. This quiet spot was in the past an estate of Grigory Potemkin, one of the favorites of Catherine the Great. These Tavricheskiy Gardens were designed or landscaped in truly Romantic style, in the goal... More

Not very well known or advsertised, so yet free of annoying crowds, fast food kiosks etc. Amazing place with its own athmosphere and lots of small cozy corners, couple of pools, comfy benches.

This is a lovely park that does not get many foreigners here. This is why I wentvhere to see the locals who were enjoying it. Although a bit cool people were in various states of relaxation smiling, laughing and playing. Small Russian families bring their children here to be free of the more formal larger parks. I love the peace of... More

It's unfortunate that this place is not very know to foreigners! It's very beautiful, and has a lot of things from both imperial and soviet Russia. If possible, find a knowing person (or a tour guide - I don't know if there are tours available) who can really tell you about Tavrichesky and its existence in different periods.

There's one of the better skating facilities inside the Garden, well worth a visit if you're into winter sports. There's also a skate sharpening facility that does a decent job (another one at Yubileiny Ice Palace, also downtown), in case you needed one...

Living as expat now; live near this park. Wonderful place. In summer, filled to brim with sun bathers and artists, children and performers. In the fall, quite spectacular are the colors. I recommend this park for any day to relax and enjoy.
