It is amazing what the history does. Volga region German Mr.Alexander Herhardt built very strong and thickwalled mill in 1908. And in 1942 it would save the most important Russian defenceline of Stalingrad from German fascists.

The scale of the war for anyone visiting Volgograd is already well understood but seeing a building left standing is very impactful. Part of sit with museum and armour along the river. This must be considered the #2 spot in Volgograd to see. At least...More

This monument shows the immense destruction that took place of a city completely destroyed for the idiocies of man. Millions of life's east for ever and for nothing. Poor mankind if we learn nothing from it. A must see.

Its located next to the great museum of WWII. Really recommend to visit it. Their exhibition outside of museum and a lot of great artifacts inside. You can spent hours there.

Visit as part of the panoramic museum visit. Must see. Just imagine how the city must have looked around this building. A life we could not even imagine. Not one step back.

Only building in Stalingrad to be maintained as it was following siege of Stalingrad. Only viewable from the street in front or from the Volga River.

It is the last building that was kept as a building after 200 days of figth between Red Army and Hitler's Army. All around was erased from the Map of the City.

Left standing as an image of the former Stalingrad. The grounds were not open to the public, but easy photos from street level. The statue of the children dancing around the crocodile is in the foreground.
