After 5 years of living and travelling in China I finally feel I am seeing real China. As a photographer, I constantly encounter a well rehearsed thin polished veneer of tourist China. After searching far and wide to find someone I could work with on my photography needs, I encountered Alex Guan at CET. Down to earth and experienced, Alex knew immediately what I needed and designed a detailed solo photo tour for me. Clear and detailed with cost transparency, it was a no brainer. I toured Guilin, Yangshuo and surrounds for 6 days and 5 night.
Usually I like freedom to explore and discover, but it was a nice change and I noticed I took a great deal more photos because the unique opportunities that were put in front of me. Not just the usual posed locations with a million others, we were up before the sun and in-front of absolute splendour. We walked and met locals, discussed real life and invited to see and do things not on any tourist trap tours list. In short it was a dream come true.
Highlights were talking with the oldest cormorant fisherman at his home about how things had changed and taking portraits, sunrise over the Li river, Ping'an rice terrace hikes, off the beaten track discovering ancient stone ruins not yet ruined with bus carparks. Accomodation and food was excellent, driving between location and service overall was the best Ive experienced. Price was acceptable but the value I received was again better than anywhere in China before. I was in the right places at the right times for photography, I did not need for anything, I got more than I expected and I am booking my Yunnan trip later this week with them. In one word, "authentic" finally.

Me and my wife took the private Li River hiking tour from China Expedition Tours in October 2019. For us it was a very spontaneous decision. We contacted the company just 1 day before the trip but everything ended up being just perfect! They reacted quickly, everything was organized as promised incl. convenient payment method. So, in the morning our private English-speaking guide - Alex was expecting us at the lobby of our hotel. The driver was also waiting for us in the spacious and very clean car parked in front of the hotel.
The hiking itself was brilliant. Firstly, we visited the panoramic spots, where we really enjoyed the breathtaking views of Li River and mountains from above. Than the driver dropped us with Alex at one of the villages, where we started our journey along the river through ancient villages, local farms, wild nature and peacefulness. We went the paths you have absolutely no chance to find on your own as they were hidden in the woods and mountains. Alex was so helpful and informative! He showed us many interesting things (such as ancient paths, the cotton and mandarine fields, etc.) and explained a lot about local culture and way of life. He answered every single question we asked and was taking care of us on every stage of our journey. We made a stop for brunch and shared the food with each other on the peaceful riverbank. On late afternoon we arrived to designated place where the driver was already waiting for us to bring us back to our hotel. We asked Alex to give us advice, where to buy a tasteful tea from Guilin. He was glad to show us his favorite local tea store, where we could enjoy delicious teas and get the insights into tea culture of China.
Don't hesitate to book this hiking tour! it's worth every penny!!

This was a bucket list trip for me. Stepping foot on the great wall, seeing the warriors, experiencing the few remaining cormorant fishermen, it was all breathtaking and deeply informative. Alex and Peter provided great insight on their country.

I had thought of Guilin as a stopping place onway to other places! Nope I was so wrong! Guilin is a place to spend a full vacation! So much here! Alex gave us a taste of the area that is a highlight to our trip to China!

Alex Guan with China Expedition Tours was our guide through Guilin and Yangshuo. He provided us a wonderful experience of the sites, the food and the accommodations. This was the highlight of our trip!

Chanel worked with me very patiently to craft my dream trip. The accommodations and hotel breakfasts were excellent. Everything arranged went like clockwork--it was all extremely well planned. I was very impressed. I traveled with Alex in and near Guilin and to a minority village, which was a wonderful experience. Chanel and Alex were very kind and hospitable to me (an older woman traveling alone), and they both are extremely knowledgeable and speak English very, very well. Chanel then took me right to the airport check-in to travel to Xi'an, where Maggie met me and guided me to see the Terra Cotta warriors and other sights. She was a great guide. From there I went to Beijing, where Johnny was also a great guide. Maggie and Johnny were also very friendly and helpful, and they communicated very well in English. I highly recommend this company! I felt very comfortable in China with them. I will always remember these wonderful people and great trip. Many thanks!

Chanel was the travel agent I was coordinating with for months, she was very patient in helping me devise an itinerary that would work well for my senior citizen parents and my 8 year old son. She assisted me in choosing places to visit and pacing of time to maximize our trip. She also helped me choose a hotel in China and book a transfer from the hotel.
Our tour guide for the Shaolin temple was LIS and she was very sweet and accommodating. Our tour guide For the Great Wall was STEVE. Steve was incredible with English and so knowledgeable on the history and culture of China. Both our tour guides were patient and kept us on track of schedule.

We had asked Alex and Chanel to arrange a round trip for us based on a rough idea that we had in terms of locations and activities and boy they have delivered! We had a great tour of China, travelling from Shanghai to Huangshan and countryside, to Chengdu and Qingchengshan, Xi’an and Beijing.
Both Alex and Chanel were very responsive to our wishes and requests and the drivers and guides they had arranged for us were great. Also, during the trip we kept in touch via WeChat, just in case of any questions from our side.
In summary, I can only recommend booking your China trip China Expedition Tours!

We organised a 3-day trip with China Expeditions around Guilin, Yangshuo and Longji Rice Terraces. The welcoming from the team was great. The car was super comfortable for the 4 of us - important as Longji is quite a way !
We had Cindy as our guide and she was extremely knowledgeable, clear. The overall service was perfect. Thank you!
