This was my second visit. The first one was in Sept. 2015 and this one was in May 2017, hence the scenes were different. They have since built an extensive steel platform and walkways on the high side for the visitors. In this visit I had the opportunity to stay overnight there hence I could shoot both sunset and sunrise.... More

April may be the wrong season to see the multi colored fields but nevertheless it is still very scenic. The road going up is quite bumpy as it is up the mountain and chilly at night with no entertainment being in a village.

Travel available all year around. Best travel time : Every May-Jun. ; Sept.- Dec. The colorful land reflected beautiful sunrise and sunset. Luoxiagou is a nice place to see sunset, Damakan to see sunrise. Besides this, the local village to visit people is a good experience for me. Talking and eating with people in Dongchuan to know life of Chinese... More

Recommended to reach Luo Xia Gou before sunset. Stay at a hotel nearby and take pictures of the sunrise at the same place. There are many places that you can check out and stake out with your cameras before sunrise the next day. Sunrise happens quickly and before you know it, the sun rays will be too strong for nice... Redlands in Yunnan is still relatively hidden from tourists. While Yuanyuang boasts of its beautiful rice terraces, Redlands is breathtaking with its red, brown, yellow and green terraces. It's a great place for photographers although one must rely on the weather and different view points for outstanding shots. The journey from Kunming takes about 3 hours and the roads can... More

A fantastic opportunity for photos, especially if you stay overnight and get both late afternoon and also sunrise photos. A local will need to drive you around the various spots but it is definitely worth it. We paid ¥200 for all the driving and ¥70 for a room. We caught the 8.30 direct bus from Kunming North Bus station to... More

We went to Dongchuan with the suggestion of my photography friend. The area is very photogenic and with our guided tour, we were able to catch all the highlights we should have.

Getting to Dongchuan is not easy without a car of your own.During our trip, swathes of the roads there were under repair & some parts inaccessible.Be warned that fog is common in Dongchuan, even as late as 11 am or noon!We had to turn back & abandon our first attempt as we came up against thick fog.The original hotel that we'd book...
