It was good size, not too big or small. I know this shrine long time, but just haven't any chance to go to even Minatogawa are in Kobe. Finally, I made to come and it was so tidy and seems beautiful shrine that I was feeling so Japan!:)

Minatogawa Shrine is a much quieter shrine than the lovely Ikuta Shrine, and both are pretty gorgeous. Minatogawa is colored with golden hues, while Ikuta is the typical red. I prayed at both of them, and they're both worth it if you're in the area and enjoy shrines. Minatogawa definitely is in a quieter area, though, so it almost seems... More

Minatogawa Shrine was a place I used to visit regularly when I lived in Kobe – 45 years ago. An historically important local shrine, it was then one of the few places you could get any sense of space & peace in a high & frantic city. It has survived the 1995 earthquake & the rebuilding of the city (even... More

This is a fantastic, quiet shrine tucked away in the center of Kobe. Just a short walk from JR Kobe station, it is easy to get to. The center is wide open, with several nice shrines off the main path. It probably doesn't get too packed except for major holidays, so you should be able to enjoy it at a... More

Out of all the shrines and temples I've visited in Osaka, Kobe, Nara, and Kyoto, Minatogawa was definitely the most photogenic. While it certainly helped that it was very quiet on the day I visited, the relative lack of touristy gimics (see: Kiyumizu-dera in Kyoto) coupled with the large area of the temple made it really worthwhile.

Very interesting to see. Each shrine is so unique...we enjoyed visiting with locals to give some insight about each shrine we visited.

I went to Minatogawa shrine at new year and, while respectably crowded, it was extremely mercantile with not much of the nice atmosphere around temples at this time of year. You will find the whole lot of usual food stalls with some very decent fare but the temple itself is not worth seiing. Maybe another time of year, quieter, to... More

Notably to be an important shrine in Kobe this is one of the few shrines that is impressive, the other being Ikuta Shrine. Minatogawa Shrine 湊川神社 is located on the near both JR Kobe Station and the Kosoku Kobe Sta. (Kobe Fast Line). It was built to be located where the famous Battle of Minatogawa occurred. The Shinto shrine is... More

Kobe is not a huge city so it doesn't have tons of shrines that amaze visitors. This is one of the few shrines that will impress the tourist even after they think they've seen it all. The grounds are sprawling with many sub buildings with sub shrines. When I was there I had the pleasure to see a wedding procession... More
