Perhaps less well known to foreign tourists (not to the locals, as seen from the long queue for the evening sessions), it is one of the most special gardens for autumn colors, particular in the evening. There is a separate admission fee for the evening session and there was a 30-45 min wait at the door when I was there.... More

The Tenjuan Garden is absolutely gorgeous, with beautiful plants and a pond with tons of Japanese carps that are very eager to come near. If you are into photography, you may end up spending a few hours here.

Tenjuan Garden is a beautiful garded, but probably best enjoyed in the spring or later in the autumn. Like in every Japanese garden, it has a very nice pond (with Koi).

There is a lovely path through a little tree glade and around a pond, and a nice gravel zen garden. We might have enjoyed it more if we didn't feel self-pressed to see the rest of Nanzen-ji. The zen garden must be spectacular in the fall.

Absolutely stunning gardens, I would say the absolute gem at Nanzen-ji Complex. A beautiful, tranquil space.

This is a small subtemple of the Nanzen-ji complex, but in my opinion it is one of the most beautiful and memorable. Possibly because there are less tourists coming in (I guess you would think twice about paying the fee for this small temple when there's Nanzen-ji just there) the vibe here is serene and peaceful, helping you get in... We discovered this garden while visiting Nanzenji Temple. Located on the ground of Nanzenji, this subtemple is not large, but the gardens and rock pond are beautiful. We visited during autumn which made it all the more spectacular. It was not as overwhelming crowded as some larger and more popular gardens can be, so you can take your time to... More

One of the best gardens I saw in Kyoto during autumn. It has a most unique beauty.Saw many temples that stand out for their autumn colors, but this one is above all.

We found this place almost by accident whilst heading towards the underground from Nanzen-ji, but this was the single most spectacular garden we saw in Kyoto during the autumn leaves season. Even the hordes of visitors did not detract from its beauty.

Beautiful but for Kyoto standards I would could it "just average". If you have some time left at Nanzen-ji, go ahead.
