I first took part in Emi's cookery class when I visited Kyoto in 2008 and have since recommended Emi to friends who have visited and enjoyed her classes since (the most recent was two friends from London in 2016). I was with my mum and it was our first trip to Japan. Emi's class was a delight - she offered... More

Booked a private cooking lesson with Emi in mid-November 2016. How delightful to be welcomed into her home to share her knowledge and expertise. Emi taught us so much about ingredients and the "whys" of preparing the dishes we did. Emi provides notes and recipes for the food you prepare so you can concentrate on actually cooking! Lots of fun,... More

My husband and I took a cooking class at Emi’s to get to know some autumn dishes and typical Kyoto ingredients. Emi was very open to our suggestions as to the menu. She picked us up in front of the Kyoto University for Art and Design (not far from the famous Philosophers Path) and brought to her lovely, little house.... More

Emi was such a lovely person. She gives us a unique experience about the Japanese kitchen at her place. You can choose different dishes and get a nice hand-out with a overview of the Japanese ingredients with all recipes. Strongly recommended.

Emi offered a fun and instructive cooking class. We did simple but really really good recipes, the whole family had something to prepare and we actually learned a lot ( our kids are 6 and 8). We highly recommend it.

I had a private course by Emi san. She was perfect from de begining. Speaking very good english and also a few words of french and Italian... She is open minded and curious. We cook together, told me about lots of japanese cooking things how to make dashi, how to prepare sesame sauce, many many things that I could learn... More

Sure, you can see temples, eat amazing food, wander historic alleys, but nothing gave us a better sense of Japan than spending the afternoon in a kitchen with a charming and knowledgeable Kyoto resident and foodie, learning about ingredients, cooking up a lovely sampling of food, and being in her personal kitchen. It was just my husband and I on... More

Emi's cooking class was one of a kind. She opens up her home and kitchen to you, and shares traditional Japanese recipes. She's very thoughtful in explaining and not only is the food presented beautifully, but it tastes amazing too. We did the class as a couple and enjoyed it very much. Highly recommended.

My wife and two children (11 & 14) feel very privileged to have attended a private cooking class with Emi. We learnt so much more than simply how to prepare four dishes. The knowledge we gained about the numerous sauces and basic stocks are applicable to many other dishes. Our understanding of numerous Japanese ingredients was also strengthened. Emi is... More

We met Emi at the steps of the nearby university and walked to her home for the class. We had arranged ahead of time to make 3 vegetarian dishes and a dessert. Emi had all the recipes written down for us and plenty of reference books as well. The whole class lasted about three hours, including eating our dishes. She's... More
