I took an early morning Train from Tokyo to Kyoto just for this bike tour. When I arrived at the meeting point I was informed that the scheduled guide couldn't make it and a person who had never led the tour before would be handling it. I was the only person in the group so I thought I'd get great... More

Yuini our guide was great. Really informative and engaging along the walk. Met a couple of Aussies on the tour which was cool as the Australian conversations have been limited of coarse. Great afternoon and really good value for money. Get on board!!

I was traveling by myself on my first visit to Japan. I booked two different tours with two different tour groups in two days. The best tour by far was with Kyoto Urban Adventures. This was a half day small group Kyoto Cultural walking tour. Our small group was lead by Juraj who did a fantastic job. Juraj moved to... More

Yumi was a great guide and I recommend this tour to anyone. Put on your walking shoes and learn A LOT about Japan and Kyoto, the temples and shrines, from this excellent guide. She was very knowledgeable and a great friend to us all. We even got a snack!

For our first day in Kyoto, we took part in the 1/2 day cycling tour. The tour ran for about 4 hours and spends quite a bit of time cycling by the river, which is very pleasant. The three main stops the tour takes in are the Heian-Jingu Shrine, the Nanzenji Temple and probably the highlight, the Philospher's Path. The... More

The tour takes in a Buddhist temple with a stunning rock garden, the famous Inari Shinto shrine and Gion, the geisha district. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and learned masses. Pepijn, our guide, was excellent, very informative and even bought us a special Kyoto sweet. Very well thought out introduction to Japanese culture. Highly recommended. If you are thinking of... The bike tour was an amazing way to see the beautiful city of Kyoto. Our English speaking tour guide Yumi was very friendly and made the tour very enjoyable with her up-beat personality and enthusiasm! I would definitely do it again and recommend it to all visitors!!

I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants a different perspective of Kyoto as it explores both traditional Kyoto and modern Kyoto at night. As it was at night we could see usually crowded shrines and laneways lit up and basically to our selves. We were lucky enough to be the only ones on the tour and had the... More

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
