We came here to see the temple and it was during peak fall season. We also happened to come near the end of the day (4pm) and get to see the evening lights (for Fall season only). This temple is one of the best in the area and the least expensive (400yen). It's a must see. The walk leading up... More

Wonderful experience when visiting Kyoto. Kiyomizu-dera is a very nice temple complex on hills above Kyoto. Adding to the charm and fun of visiting the temple is the market street leading up to the entrance. Many shops along the main road leading up to the temple. Those include pottery, food, clothing and tourist shops. Another unique experience is the numerous... More

Kiyomizudera is translated as the pure water tempel. This tempel is one of the most famous in Japan and was founded in 780. Kiyomizudera is located on a huge wooden stage on which its main hall sits and from where you have a beautifull view over Kyoto. Behind Kiyomizudera's main hall stands Jishu Shrine and many love couple visit this... More

I'm not a fan of pure darkness, so this was not an easy ride for me. The temple itself is gorgeous and the grounds surrounding it are stunning. However, once you're actually descending the steps to the sacred rock, the lights completely vanish and all you have is a rope to hang onto for dear life. Luckily, a friend helped... More

You cannot visit Kyoto without visiting this temple. The views, the architecture, the grounds are just stunning.

This place is beautiful and the autumn colors make it spectacular. Definitely worth seeing, but..... This place was SUPER crowded. We went around 5 pm to see the illumination and it was hard to get a picture. It costs ¥400 to get in, there is very little line to buy tickets. This is not an easy place to have a... More

Even with the bus loads of tourist, Kiyomizu-dera Temple is still an attraction worth visiting. We visited once in the early morning to see the autumn colors and once again at night for the night lights. It neve ceased to amaze. The night light up was particularly busy. The walkway where you could see the temple from the side had... More

The place has pretty orange temples, but the most unique attraction is the holy rock in one of the temples. You have to venture down stairs and around winding paths in complete darkness with only a handrail as a guide. I have to admit, I was a little scared at the beginning.

This temple was high on the list of places to visit and it didn't disappoint. Took a small walk from the bus station to get there and the place was totally buzzing with tourists. Expect a small entry fee to get in. Fantastic autumn colours and views all around. The structure of the temple itself is quite impressive. The streets... More

It feels like a mission to get here, up the Kyoto hills but, it's so worth it. The temple is so beautiful albeit, extremely busy. There are people everywhere!
