Virtually anything a Westerner can imagine under "Food", always freshly cooked, baked, grilled, peeled, a unique atmosphere, the whole street is a huge restaurant, full of good choices at many national restaurants.

I ignored this place before but when I went to KL again, I went to Jalan Alor and, wow! It was like food heaven. This was the best Malay food experience I ever had in Malaysia.

Make sure you visit Jalan Alor for the food variety at reasonable cost and the atmosphere. The coconut ice cream in a half shell is to die for.

So this place gets much livelier by night and there are some great places to try local delicacies on skewers. It really isn't as cheap as it is made out to be though. A standard meat with rice dish is around RM45 if not more.

KL is safe, but don't walk around with your handphone out, or wearing obvious jewellery. Bag snatching is rife. Definitely best to get the KLIA express train to Sentral and then taxi from there.
