Muzium Tekstil should not opened to public if they are not able to welcome properly visitors. All the building is under maintenance. The air conditioning was not working in the galleries. With more than 40 degres celsius, the visit has turned into a nightmare. We spent 10 minutes and paid / wasted 10 ringgits.

Beautiful outside, with interesting exhibits of textiles and jewelry inside. During my research some people were complaining the they were now charging an entrance few. It was 5 ringit - about $1.22US. I don't know of many museums that are that cheap.

Batik fabrics are used by many Asian people but the Malay have made it their national attire, there used to be a "Wear batik day" when men and women dressed in fabulous handpainted designs. The motifs vary by the techniques used - printing with hand held blocks, tye-dying or painting a figure outlined in wax on fabric. As the common global clothing is nowadays t-shirt and jeans these costumes have faded to history. This rather old fashioned museum also showcases bead embroidery sewn on slippers by Straits Chinese Nyonya and the seremonial jewellery worn and made by Sarawak people on Borneo. The cafeteria and shop no longer exist.

loved the experience and going to see not only textiles but jewelry and weaving. Lovely museum that was quite affordable. I also wish to point out the cafe and shopping area.

Nothing you can see here. Many doors are closed.
Very dissapointed.
You better see from outside only.
5 RM not worth at all

The museum was a delight! It was extremely well-laid out, with attention to detail and elaborate descriptions of Malaysian textiles and history. We loved the explanations of the process of Batik printing, and the extensive photos of actual Malaysian individuals dressed in the fabrics mentioned. The section on accessories on the upper floor was also lovely. At RM5, the entry was extremely reasonable too!

First off, the building itself is an architectural treasure. Second, it is air conditioned, which is always welcome in Kuala Lumpur! Third, the exhibits of traditional textile making and local forms of dress are nicely presented. The little movies in the jewelry room on the making of silver and gold jewelry should not be missed--they alternate versions in Malay and in English, so if it is playing in the other language, just be patient a few minutes and you will get it in your language of choice!
As of August 2019, it is not free anymore, but costs 5 ringgits for foreign visitors. That's about one dollar and change US; worth it for the air conditioning alone! Unfortunately, the cafe and gift shop were closed when I visited in December; I hope that was just a one-off, because I enjoyed the cafe very much in an earlier visit.

Very interesting museum about Malaysian textiles. The cafe next door is a treasure. The owner is an expert in batik history and is very happy to share her knowledge. The food was nice too. The building is a colonial gem.

I visited this little museum using it to escape the unbearable noon heat. But the exhibits are actually quite interesting. It helps that there are accompanying texts in English, so i was able to appreciate what i was seeing. Entrance fee for foreigners is 5 Ringgit per adult. I think it's worth a visit if you happen to be in the area. It's not very big, should be able to cover it in 1-2 hrs.

The Textile Museum is in a wonderful heritage building and has a sophisticated display of textiles and costumes. What comes across is the range of textile designs and the places from which they have come. The influence of local designs, complemented by designs from the Middle East, India and other parts of South East Asia, is showcased.
