- SuffolkLuccheseSudbury, United Kingdom628 contributionsGood displays.Visited on a Sunday morning. Starting at the top and working down we enjoyed the artwork of the BNM collection and its mixture genre. Working down the floors to cover the various galleries, each is well set out and several very interactive for kids, this part of the museum is done particularly well. Pleasant staff as well made the visit very enjoyable and well worth it.Visited December 2019Written 1 January 2020
- Lulu10 contributionsNice place to visit in cityI would say it is more like a museum of banking and currency than art gallery as there are only 30 paintings at most but all are great paintings. Well furnished, many seats for resting and can take your time to enjoy the art. Free admission, lockers provided for bags. 10mins walk from lrt/mrt station:Bandaraya.Visited February 2020Travelled soloWritten 21 February 2020
- Hanan BRamat Gan, Israel536 contributionsInteresting but not stupendousMalaysia’s Central Bank has set up a museum/gallery for Its citizens combining history with education. I don’t know how many other central banks have done this or something similar, and so kudos. I actually came to see the art on exhibit (top floor) but it was not to my taste. The museum is located a bit off the beaten track, in a place where you might find a taxi cruising once every millennium. Not having a mobile phone, I was unable to order one, however the kind people at the front desk were kind enough to do it for me.Visited February 2020Travelled soloWritten 20 February 2020

A very nice museum (unfortunately the gallery was closed for repairs or so) but the remaining floors offered a good insight into the development of the Malaysian central bank, it’s role and responsibilities, etc. Also a good overview of the development of coins and noted throughout the last few hundred years. All in all, interesting exhibition with everything displayed in BM and English so good for tourists as well. Some nice interactive areas and activities so also younger kids would be entertained for a while. Parking is RM 5 but the museum itself is free (you need to put a deposit of RM 10 for putting any bags you have in a locker).

There are a lot of historical paintings, banknotes and some old books. My favorite part is the big "TV". You can just lie down on the "couch" and watch the history of the Islam Bank. You can't take your bag or purse, you can only take your phone or your wallet. Or, you can put all your things into the locker. But it will cost a little bit.

I had a wonderful experience visiting Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery, which is also known as Sasana Kijang. Its Numismatics Gallery offers plentiful information on the evolution of currency system used from the Zaman Kesultanan Melayu Melaka till today's modern era. It's suitable for educational and leisure purpose and it's strongly recommended that parents bring their children to this museum.

When we talk about museum, mostly is about history and arts. This trendy Bank Negara Museum showcase the history of finance-how Bank Negara made money, the versions of classic money and also got some art paintings by famous artist at the upper floor.

Quite informative, an enlightening view of Malaysian history from an economic angle. No entry fee (10MYR deposit required for cloak service), and a rather pleasant cafe attached for good light lunches. However, we snuck in on 8 March, the day before an indefinite closure due to COVID-19 (although works are also being undertaken at the same time).

We are not Muslims so we didn't quite know what to expect - but we were soon astounded by the history, the artefacts, the architecture and the mosaical patterns that belong to no other race/religion . The world of Islam stands by itself - it is VERY different from the European Western character we were used to - Islamic art, writings, clothing, rugs, ceremonial weapons, pottery and silverware has an ambience all of its own. There is an entrance fee. The building is air-conditioned, there is a restaurant and there are three floors in a huge complex. Nearby is the National Mosque of Malaysia.

Dear Chris0922,
You are welcome to just walk in. However, if you need to speak to anyone specifically, I would recommend that you write to us formally so that we can arrange a meeting with the staff.
For your information, we also have a library which is open to the general public Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm. The library has a stricter dress code that you may need to abide too. (Polo T-Shirt and shoes are to be worn).
Please email infomuseum@bnm.gov.my for further queries.
