We came here on New Year Eve to listen to some great Blue Grass music. At 7PM the cannons was shot off to start the new year. There was about three to four hundred people there and they had officer's in the parking lot to help with the traffic.

We spent almost a whole day exploring the fort. Very educational and interesting. The grounds are well designed. There is a museum near the fort and also a beautiful beach. Definitely visit if you are in the area.

Fort Macon has added an excellent visitors center since last I was there and it is a spectacular improvement. Clean modern restrooms, gift shop, and repaved parking lot. The beach has grown as well, possibly due to the WWII breakers finally being mostly broken by the waves and sea. Still a great place to find natural polished shell fragments and... More

Went to this fort which is actually a really good museum and has a wonderful video explaining the history of the fort. Beautiful location, run by the State Park System, no cost but they accept donations, have a great gift shop. A must see if you are in Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, Beaufort or surrounding areas. Very well done, next... More

After visiting the Fort, we spend time strolling the park. Trails not long enough for "hiking", but you can walk for 45 to 75 min. Nice views of ocean and beach.

Well worth the time to stop and take some more of the nations history. From the Civil War to WWII this place is a history buffs must see.

Since 1994, Fort Macon had always been on our do to list. The upgrades that they have done over the years is very educational. They have artifacts, a short movie, a store, and of course the fort. Beach access is right across from the parking lot. The fort is rumored to have ghost! If your into that I would make... More

Lots of history, this civil war era fort is well worth exploring. The visitor center is worth walking through to see some of the historical artifacts from the area. Plenty of trails down to the beach area, and some lovely beaches to go and explore and picnic - just minutes from downtown Morehead City. If you are going to spend... More

We visited Fort Macon in December, 2016. We were pleasantly surprised. The museum is well organized, clean, and informational. The outdoor Fort is accessible with several stations/rooms to visit. Guided tours are available, although not every day in the iff-season. This Fort is very easy to navigate and enjoy at your leisure. Small children should be supervised as there are... More
