About
Built by two local brothers from the village of Kinnakeet (now known as Avon Village), the pier took two years to construct. It opened its doors in the summer of 1963 and has been in continuous operation since then. The pier stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. Its visible crooked bends are testament to the forces of Mother Nature over the many years. Today the Avon Fishing Pier is the only pier remaining in operation in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is world famous for its many records, especially with giant Red Drum that frequently school just off the end of the pier. Today the pier is in even better hands with ownership belonging to Koru Village Resort and Spa. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just taking the family fishing for the day, the Avon Fishing Pier is the perfect spot. Come and start a tradition of your very own today.

$2 per person to walk on an old pier?! Ridiculous and repugnant cash grab. Shame on you, Koru Village Resort and Spa, for this disgusting exploitation.

We couldn't find any info online about the pier, so I hope this helps. We waited until the last full day we were there to check it out because the weather was so hot the whole time we were ther. 95 every day.
It was to pricey for the amount of time we would have had to fish. $14 per person. We paid the $2 each to walk on the pier.
If we had more time I would now pay to fish there. Several people were catching Spots and Croakers and several sharks were caught too. It was worth the money to walk the pier to watch the fishing for a while and the heat was very tolerable on the pier with the cool ocean wind and you can get excellent pictures of the surf. It was breaking halfway down the pier where the surfers were congregated.
If we get to the Outer Banks again , we will definitely spend several hours fishing !

PS When we were there there was no fee for parking !

The Avon fishing pier is ok, nothing spectacular in the least bit, in fact it appears to be ready to fall down any minute. With each wave the entire pier sways. Watch your step, there are not two even planks on the whole thing and it’s easy to trip. There are nice views and benches to sit. We paid $2 to walk out on the pier and a bit more to fish. There are bathrooms and a small bait shop with the pier.

While exploring the OBX we decided to stop and walk out on this pier. Being a NC resident from the foothills, we know all too well the weather the OBX gets. It was very interesting to see how the pier over the years has been shaped in the curvy pier that it is - we were surprised especially after the last few storms on the coast that the pier was still standing so well. It's an old wooden pier, with repairs - and no it is not in a straight line any more. Still at $2.00 per person for an all day pass it was well worth the experience. The staff who run the pier office were very pleasant to chat with as well.

Huge thumbs down!!! Rated one Bc zero is not an option. My husband and I went to this pier today with our service dog and were denied access. The cashier taking taking the two dollar admission fee to get on the pier told us service dogs are not allowed!! Really? Then proceeded to ask us our medical history on why we needed our service dog. My husband and I are both military and have proper documentation for our service dog and he was wearing his service animal vest at the time. The cashier was an absolute jerk and I would never recommend visiting this pier!! This establishment is a disservice to the surrounding area.

A must go at least one time if you’re staying in the Avon area. Looks old and frump and ready to fall, but feels sturdy when you are on it. Great place to fish, check out the waves, relax and read and take the kiddos. America’s pier!!!

It was a cold a windy day, but we needed an activity for our little ones. The Avon Pier was the perfect spot. The staff is very kind! We walked out and wanted to watch some of the guys fish, but it was too cold and windy for the kids. This pier has seen a storm or two! Fun little afternoon stop!

Great public access to the beach. You don't need to climb over any sand dunes to get to the beach. Beautiful pier.

Nice pier to take a stroll and see what’s being caught by a few local fishermen and visitors. You can tell it’s been around for a long time and survived a few hurricanes!

Ice cream and drinks available as well as a gift shop, get a hat!

Definitely a nice pier and we would have liked to take a walk on it but we have never paid anywhere in the entire country to take a stroll and snap a few photos. For fishing, yes, but to take a walk? NO. Not doing it.
