Situated on the meandering Turtle River, Turtle River State Park is located in a beautiful wooded valley. Constructed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the park offers year-round recreational activities, including camping, picnicking, wildlife viewing, fishing and trails for hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing. Rustic group cabins and shelters are available for rent. Our Visitor Center hosts a variety of interpretive panels to help visitors learn more about our history and local environment.

This is a great place to enjoy the river, the forest, and the prairie. The trails and picnic areas are beautifully groomed, the campsites are very nice, and the staff is very friendly.

The campgrounds are in excellent shape and have everything you need. The park staff is very helpful and is located close to a very nice small town, Larimore, where you can eat, etc.

I was there in mid September and it was beautiful. Warm days, cool nights. I can't speak for August though.
