This is such a classic place. I loved going here as a child and still like to visit. You can walk around and look at all the trout. You can feed most of them (take some quarters to buy fish food). You can then extend...More

Every time I'm in Allentown we make it to the hatchery to feed the fish. I'm not sure exactly why it's so much fun, but perhaps it's the hypnotic way the fish attack the handfuls of food?

My kids loved feeding the fish and watching them chase after the food. The house next to the fish tanks sells food in various sizes. I bought a dollars worth of food for each kid and that was plenty to enjoy the experience.

Bring a few dollar bills to buy food to feed the fish from the machines. During the summer an ice cream truck may come by as well. There is plenty of room to have a picnic.

I am sure you can buy bulk food at various stores locally to your area if the hatchery cannot. Also, look at koi pond websites, they have a multitude of options.
Is there a price for the hatchery or is it free?

The hatchery is free, however if you want to feed the fish there is a cost for that :)
