Hallie's history is amazing. I have read her books and read about her unique history. She has an incredible history - from her marriage in 1918 through her life on the Stillwell Ranch until her death just prior to her 100th birthday. We were thrilled to get to spend time in her "Hall of Fame Museum" with her memorabilia, articles.... More

We enjoyed a few days camping here and riding our motorcycle touring the park and area. Bring provisions if you plan to stay.

If you're in the area stop on in for a short visit. The staff was friendly and we could tour the museum at our own pace which was nice. Neat history and many family keepsakes displayed!

Hallie's Hall of Fame is interesting, though sadly it's decaying due to neglect. The exhibits are covered in dust -- apparently no one ever cleans anything in there. The Stillwell Store is small, with limited stock (due to space limitations), and pricy (due to remote location). The property is home to two old derelict trailer houses and an open shop... More

This campground/general store, with gas (no diesel) is located a few miles from the north entrance of Big Bend National Park. Alpine is a pretty fair drive. Stillwell has both primitive as well as full hook up sites. Very dark skies with lots of stars. Be sure to visit the Hallie Stillwell museum in the old ranch house. Hallie was... More

This place is not for everyone. You can pitch tent on rugged West Texas ranch land for $7 per person per night. You can have a campfire , bring your own wood, which is strictly prohibited in Big Bend. You can take a 4 minute shower in a plywood shower which beats anything else you will find other than a... If you like remote, out-of-the-way places and don't need all of today's modern conveniences to be happy, then this is the place for you. Relaxed, unhurried and fairly basic. The little museum is really interesting. Hallie Stillwell was an amazing woman. A few miles outside Big Bend park, this place is quiet and very dark at night. A good place... More

Finally stayed here as most campsites in the national park were taken and we planned a very early hike in the park the next day. We had a great experience with the sunset view, night sky and absolute quiet at our site. Also nice trip to La Linda bridge on the border. Store has a good feel and shaded porch.

This little museum complex provides a very good overview of the area and history of the region. It's really worth the time to visit.

Hallie Stillwell was a strong pioneer. The place is not for all but if you have followed her life story, it will be worth the stop. The store handed us the keys to the museum & said turn the lights off when you leave! Very relaxed atmosphere. Do not know how she survived her but also thrived & became a... More
