The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to...

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. Located a quick but quiet ten miles from downtown, we are a botanical garden open to the public year-round and have become a favored venue for everything from conservation-focused conventions to beautiful weddings.

We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation and application of native plants through our gardens, campus, research, education and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and enhance human health and happiness. Visit, learn and make a better world with us.

The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes in 1982 and became a part of The University of Texas at Austin in 2006.

We stopped at the Wildflower Center to see the many types of wildflowers in bloom in Texas' springtime. The visitor center was a must-see, with displays of flowers, seedpods, grasses, etc. There was also a great art exhibit in a separate building (Education Center?) that featured Texas flowers, birds and bees... unusual approach, in that the art was three dimensional.... We visited prior to the annual bloom of wildflowers, but this Center is well laid out with many interesting buildings and paths to wander. Pretty and serene all by itself even if the wildflowers are not in full bloom.

The Wildflower Center is interesting and the colorful spring flowers made it a worthwhile stop. The variety of vegetation is good. Children will love the Family Garden area with lots of hands on possibilities. However, the plant identification signage needs to be improved and reset on the various flower beds. You can barely read some because the plants have covered... More

I think we were here at the perfect time. Lots of gorgeous flowers blooming. Enjoyed the walk through the center, and I appreciated how everything was clearly labeled. We even had the added bonus of seeing a baby owl.

I wish people write some real reviews that don't mislead other travelers. What a waste of time, money and gas/ petrol. Overly hyped and please it's not one of the things that you have to do when in Austin. You can 100% skip this, its really not worth the drive. If you want to see wildflowers, just drive down any... This was a pre planned stop for us and our companions and it could not have been a nicer time. The wildflowers were in bloom and the gardens were lovely. There were great walking areas and several exhibits of much interest. Along the way, there were volunteers to answer questions or to point of items of interest including a nesting... More

If you have the time and transportation to get there, this is an excellent place to visit. The gardens are well-marked and the visitor pamphlet is helpful in identifying the numerous types of wildflowers. If you are lucky enough to visit in springtime, you will be greeted by slashes of color in all directions.

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center takes about 2 hours to walk around unless you travel the longer trails. There is a tower with 62 steps to view the flower fields. Also an informative visitor's center. There is a nice waterfall that you can walk under that is very popular with kids.

Thank you for visiting and sharing -- I never counted the Tower stairs before, but that's fun trivia! More
