If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

What's better than doing something FREE and educational? Get to see the inside of the beautiful Capitol. Go see the TX Supreme and Appeals courts as well as the legislative branches. Worth seeing!

Beautiful place! Unlike many other capitol buildings, this one is made out of granite. The inside is absolutely gorgeous! It may be a good climb up the stairs to get to the top of the dome for the elderly and little children. You have the option to view the treasury, the room where the senate and the house of representative... More

We walked around the Capitol on our own rather than taking a tour. We visited the legislative chambers and the other common areas of the building. It was very interesting. The artwork that is displayed in the Capitol does a good job of capturing the essence of the key events and milestones that occurred during the early years of the... More

From the pink dome to the unique underground extension this state capitol, and I have visited many, is truly unique and worth a visit. Taller than the US capitol, the Texas Capitol offers an historic building and an ultra modern addition. Stand in the rotunda and look up at the star and letters TEXAS in the ceiling of the dome.... This is a must-see place to visit in Austin. We got the free tour which runs throughout the day. Guide was very friendly and informative. Seeing places that you may only see in the movies was certainly impressive. We came away with a good impression of Texas.

We took refuge here during a hot summer after noon. It was free to get in and walk around, nice and cool compare to the blistering sun outside. The size of the building is huge and it's even taller that the capital building in DC! Outside there are various monuments to visit.
