If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

This was a great first stop in Austin! The tour was very informative, and it is one of the most well-cared-for Capitol buildings I've toured. I recommend it!

Haven't been here since I was a kid and I am from here. Tour was nice to take my girlfriend on. So much history. I remember in the 80s when they added the offices underneath the capitol and it was in the news all the...More

This has to be one of the prettiest capitols around, at least among the nicest we've visited so far. Tour with a guide and enjoy the rich stories they will share. This building deserves time, not a zip tour to check it off the itenerary....More

My husband and I enjoyed the beautiful grounds of this building first. There are two rose gardens, many outdoor statues and monuments, and a beautiful, green, park with lots of trees and benches on one side of the building. We even returned after our visit...More

Went with just my daughter. She didn't want to stop long enough to take the guided tour but the snippets I heard from the guides was very interesting. We just did a self guided tour and were satisfied. And it's free

The Texas Capitol is just like the state....large and impressive. The rotunda is like nation's Capitol's only larger. The red stone walls are breathtaking. At night the lights in the rotunda are pretty tonsee all over town. It is free to visit.

I understand there is a 'quick' line for Concealed Handgun License holders only. Can all in the CHL holder's party go through this line with him or will he have to wait for the rest of his party to go through the regular line?

Sorry Elizabeth, but I was in Dubai, UAE when you submitted the question. The #37 bus would have taken you from your location to 8th & Guadalupe. Only a few blocks from the Capitol.
