If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

The SPB website provides great instructions for parking, tours, etc. We arrived in the lobby, went through the security check, and met the tour guide who informed us the tour would begin in five minutes. There were eight in the tour group. You had to stick close to the guide to hear all the interesting historical information she shared,as there... More

I recommend taking the free tour especially if you aren't American. You get the chance to learn a lot about how the American government functions. It's fascinating.

The capitol building is the centerpiece of Austin. You can see it rise from the skyline from various parts of the city. The best view is from South Congress at night when it's lit up. There is metered street parking or you can use the parking garage across the street. The grounds surrounding the building are very park like and... More

This is a great experience for all, adults and children alike. It is an extraordinary building where you get to see the Government at work. The senate floor is a magnificent room and I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of how things get done. Well worth the time and visit.

A beautiful and impressive building with amazing details, kept in very good condition. The free tour was a bit short but quite informative. Well worth a visit if you are in Austin.

Like everyone else who has visited this State Capital building, you are impressed and maybe even overwhelmed if you come from a State or Province where your capital building is much less impressive. Considering the age of the building, it is in terrific condition, almost museum quality but it is a working building. The tour guides give you lots of... More

I was impressed with the outside of the building and the great sculptures on the grounds. The inside woodwork was beautiful, and the view of the dome inside was amazing. A great way to spend some time in Austin!

This is my 3rd visit to the Capitol and each time I am impressed. Parking was very easy, just parked in a lot across the street. The grounds are beautiful with historic markers placed around. Did not have to wait to go into the Capitol. A brief scan before they let you in but you can walk all over this... More
