If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

I've came here solo then brought my international friends here. Its a quick and easy visit (plus the air-conditioner inside makes it very pleasant in summer!!). Its a very interesting insight into politics with nice architecture.

While we did the red bus trip, the visit to Capital Hill is the one I would strongly recommend. Apart from being a beautiful building, tours are free and our guide was very interesting and informative. We are not Americans, so get a much better...More

It is hard to believe this is a seat of government at night. The grounds are well groomed and appears very safe.

This was interesting but the 30 minutes or so on the official tour are all you need. It also assumes that you have a good insight into Texan history.

This is practically a must. The place is beautiful. The grounds are spectacular. Historical statues on walking paths, cool architecture of the building, very nice inside and out.

A free docent-led tour begins every 30 minutes or more frequently if demand is high. Go directly to the State Capitol building for the tour, not to the Visitors Center. Well worth 30 minutes of your time.

very nice free tour I would say to definitely take so you get a little more understanding of the inside of the building. Cafe also very good if you are there and want to eat. A MUST if you are in Austin!

What a beautiful building. Set in it's own lovely grounds and completely free to the public. The inside is certainly worth a visit if you want to spare a couple of hours. Very friendly staff too.

Sorry Elizabeth, but I was in Dubai, UAE when you submitted the question. The #37 bus would have taken you from your location to 8th & Guadalupe. Only a few blocks from the Capitol.
