Very interesting place. Unique artifacts. You need to go there when there is a tour. No individual visit out of tours. Two young ladies who work there were very knowledgeable. Nice view of Austin too.

An underrated and interesting experience. I had some time to pass so I stopped in and am glad I did. As a history lover, this was great. To see all the old furnishings and architecture was great. Beautiful and unique art work is scattered about the grounds and the staff knows their stuff. Would certainly recommend.

Having gone to graduate school in Austin more than forty years ago and a regular visitor to the city since then, I had never been to the French Legation Museum. Well, shame on me!! It's a wonderful little place. The two of us were the only ones there, and we had the tour guide all to ourselves. Interesting history behind... More

We visited on a Friday afternoon and went on the four o'clock tour. We loved the beautiful grounds and the separate kitchen area with authentic cookware. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and cheerfully answered our many questions. If you are a history buff you will love this tiny gem hidden in plain sight near downtown ATX.

We visited recently and enjoyed it. Interesting history of the house and its inhabitants. Simple floor plan with some original furnishings. Some great views and a few amusing sculptures in the yard.

Although I did not have too much time, I made a stop here on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Be sure to research the hours, as the msueum and grounds are only open 1-5 on some days. I did not tour the actual house, but had a look around the perimeter of the grounds. Parking can be limited. The spots at... More

I highly recommend the guided tour of the historic house and reconstructed kitchen - you won't regret it! The French Legation is Austin's oldest standing wooden structure (yes, there are rumors that it's haunted). It's a great place to learn about old Austin, stretching back to when Texas was a republic. The guides have some fantastic stories! Ask about the... More

I'm French and I can tell you that everything in this little museum is authentic! Similar furniture and kitchen utensils in our family house in France. The tour is very interesting and lets you delve into history. We loved it!

This was a nice surprise and worth the visit. Looking for something to see that we had not seen in Austin before; my wife and I decided to visit the French Legation Museum. The history and the house were both very interesting. The guide was excellent and the price was only five dollars. The view of downtown from the top... More
