Having lived in Austin for a couple years now, my fiancee and I found ourselves with an hour to spare in town, and finally checked out this museum. It was a really delightful surprise to learn about how Elizabet Ney, a Bavarian sculptress who, along with her husband, abruptly left the court of Mad Ludwig in Bavaria to start all... More

Lots of material available on this place, the home and studio of a famous sculptor. Tucked away in a neighborhood of nice, old homes. Amazing historical statues and photos of old-time Austin. You might want to do some reading about Ms. Ney before you visit - a truly unique person. We love to take visitors to Austin here. Make sure... More

I went here on a recent trip to Austin. When I was visiting the Capitol building, our guide recommended it. Elizabet Nye was an extraordinary woman well ahead of her time. The grounds do look shabby but that is because that was the way it was when Elizabet Nye lived there, The interior is lovely and has so many examples... More

A diamond in the rough, the rough being the unkempt garden. Well done narrative of Elisabet and her husband. Great collections of her sculpted busts. Quaint surroundings.

Hate to admit I have never heard of her. She was a very good sculptor and was very instrumental in the art movement in Texas.

Elizabeth Ney is the sculptor who made the Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston sculptures when you enter the Texas State Capitol. Some of her sculptures are here. Interesting lady with German roots. Lovely grounds redone recently to be low water high impact (I wish I could do the wildflower meadow in my suburban front yard). Takes about 1 hour... More

Great experience and some great art, as the building itself was a great. The history of The Ney Museum and miss Ney herself was fasinating.

It's been renovated and a women's group took over, but they still have a great collection and it gives you a good feeling to see the beauty a woman was able to bring to this area so long ago. Really immerses you in the history of the time. And right outside is Shipe Park with pool, tennis, basketball, and nice... More

The museum is small and the outside is looks unkept and disappointing, but walk inside and the small two room downstairs is full of sculpture and history. I loved being able to see all the bust and some of the tools of the trade. The upstairs living area was adequate and third floor the same. The contemporary artist at this... More

Visited on a tip from the wonderful owner of Go Go Gourmet (go there too). This museum is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood at the end of an overgrown yard. Made my mom nuts but I loved it, feels like you've just discovered a crazy hidden castle, lol. We were greeted by a really nice young man, didn't catch... More
